Question for the Latin American Queenzoners (El Chavo del Ocho)

Hi everyone! Just recently I found out that there are MANY people in this board who lives in South/ Central America (just like I do, I live in Brazil)... So, I was interested to know if you guys have ever seen (and if so, if you like) this TV show from Mexico, that still runs in many countries all over the world (more likely in Latin America) even though it was made like 30 years ago.... El Chavo del Ocho (Chaves, for the Brazilians) and El Chapulín Collorado (Chapolin, for the brazilians)... The guy who write these shows (Roberto Gomez Bolaños) is a hero for me... And I was wondering if anyone else here is a fan of this shows!

You can't call yourself a Latin American and not watched those shows. Chespirito is a big part of Hispanic culture from the 70s and 80s.

I'm surprised the show has remained widely popular, and re-runs are still constantly aired.

Man! I'm Chespirito's fan, and a big fan of one program, just one "Los Caquitos" you know Chaveco and Botijao(El Chompiras,el Botija y la Chimoltrufia) I consider this humor most "adult" but it continues being white humor,soft humor (man I love'Em jejeje ) in their moment I liked the Chavo but after seeing for years and years lost interest (like everything) here in Mexico is transmitting Chespirito (a program with all Chespirito's characters) old chapters from 80's and I'm recording them for my "videoteca" (video collection) I've downloaded some Chespirito's videos in Portuguese and voices that most likes me are from Chaves and Quiquinho(?)

As a matter of fact, I do! Roberto Bolaños, is a short guy, and as he writes so wonderfully, people gave him the nickname "Little Sheakespeare" (or, "Sheakespeare Chiquito", I know is a word for "short guy" in spanish that sounds like that)... hence the name: Sheakespeare Chiquito = Chespirito

Anyway, you were talking about these... how can I say... more recent shows (with Botija and Chompiras)... it's not broadcasted here in Brazil, but it was years ago... I love these too...

An interesting fact: Some jokes had to be "adapted" to the brazilian people... The man in charge of this job did Chaves' voices... And it worked wonderfully!

It's funny how in many countries in Latin American they have no idea what's the meaning of certain Mexican slang terms used on the show, but yet that doesn't stop the show from being funny. It actually makes it even funnier.

For instance, I had no idea that "Guajolote" is a turkey, and I didn't know until I asked my brother-in-law (who is Mexican) what it meant.

That's correct... For example, here in Brazil some songs played on these shows were not dubbed to portuguese so it wouldn't lose it's meanings... It is, actually, a hell of a work to translate a song perfectly...

I know the show, but I ain't a fan of it

I might see it once in a while, but can't really stand watching it that much

But I'm glad the dude made so many people happy, and he's a fan of America!!! :D
