Queen in finland
Queen the rock band which had a gig in Finland last month havent earned the respect it deserves.
This was proven by the low demand of tickets: Only half of the 1500 tickets were sold!
This scandnavian tour launched from Sweden was continuation for the tour that got great reviews just finished in England.
FLIP (local magazine) was around and followed this promise of ´75 during the gig day in Helsinki.
The 4 Pm the press conference was delayed till half an hour later: Vocalist Freddie Mercury was nowhere to be found!
Manager was put on duty to find him and soon the band arrived nicely. My chat moment with boys only confirmed my positive
idea about them. Being divas' was in no form part of their characters. Questions were replied pertinently, but one still
couldnt avoid sencing their rich humour, which made them so direct.
John deacon, the youngest of the band, just turned to 23 in Fall. John began his music interest with comp guitar, but moved
after two years to bass, which is his current instrument. For each member of queen theres common their love to music of
beatless. Boys realisez also in time the importance of studies, and none of them will have no difficulties
to get a new profession if queen wont be the thing in future for them. John's interest is aimed primarly to electronics and
physics: his favourite profession is being studio engineer.
Judged by the pictures the always Grim John is actually quite a hilarious fellow.
"the exorcist" is his last object of jokes. "The papers were full of terrible stories about that movie and so we decided
one day to go and see it with the boys (laughing). "After all we laughed so that tears ran from our very eyes."
John had found leather shoes from Stockmann warehouse during his forenoon shopping trip, got fancied about them
and immediately wanted to buy them. The only troublesome matter was the price of the shoes of 90 FIM
I encouraged John by telling the price was just about normal.
"Roger Meddows Taylor, 24 is like a devil behind his drum pads" so writes the english papers. Well.. erhm at least
in civil he seemed very nice and free-minded young lad. Roger is the only one from the band who smokes;
others relates rejectively to it. Alcohol then is another issue. Brian May's favourite drink is sherry and Roger also
seemed to enjoy well with his whiskey with sprite coktail.
Roger sung in choir as youngster and dont feel any shame about it. Roger's mother discovered boy's interest to music but
insisted to get first a good profession. So Roger was to be trained to be a dentist! The situation was not that agreeable
to Roger and so he formed "The smile" named band with Brian May. In 1970 they got their gears up together and formed Queen.
John came in only some time later.
I asked for Roger to tell about the Tv-program Top of the pops recorded last week. "Yeah our new single Killer Queen rised
to number one on charts and therefore we were asked to do a brief bit for Top of the pops. Funny actually,
because this single was not meant to be a chart climber unlike Seven seas of rhye by then in the beginning of the year.
The song just seemed more suitable for single from the new LP "Sheer heart attack". Of course its nice it is liked.
Yes, it belongs to the best part in our production. There in the rehersals I met Paul and Linda McCartney. They were
fantastic guys. Paul has always been my favourite composer for years and his newest "Junior's farm is brilliant."
The guitarist Brian May, 24 always afraids to hit his head on the ceiling, since he has the modest height of 185 cm.
Brians interest during study times was aimed to physics and astronomy. His ambitions included puzzles and vegetarian foods.
Clapton of course was his great favourite. Brians guitar is one of the prides of Queen.

Freddie Mercury, 28 Queen vocalist and supporting force was born in Zanzibar.
In the field of sport freddie was distinguished so that he was named as tennis master in boarding school.
Art eventually was more of an interest of him and with it Freddie studied dilligently. Music became important much later;
only after met Roger and Brian made Freddie to move on to music for good.
To this Queen's fixed star image would be well fitted with certain kind of arrogance, but to this kind of habit
Freddie hasnt collapsed on at least so far. As asking autography for a picture received from EMI Freddie bursted into
impetuous self-defence speech mocking the low quality of the photo and explaining that better pics have been taken of him.
"The Eyes like Marc Bolan". well a little bit of vanity is of course acceptable.
I asked Freddie for the plans of the near future. "Sheer heart attack" has been brought to markets now happily.
In England it charted to number six, but there we are more known. for the next record there's no information yet.
After christmas there's US tour and we hope to finally break through there. And then again it would be Britains turn and
sure we should get back here to scandinavia again sometime. Pace is fastedious, hopefully we're able to make it.
Freddie told in his interview to radio how Queen elizabeth had had fun with the Queen's fan post going directly to
Buckingham palace. The Royal house didnt take it as humouristicly. what a worries we all have!
At about half past four Queen moved to culture house for rehersals. The stage was almost complete and boys were
satisfied to the sound. Rehersals underwent without interrupts. except Roger's disappearing act!
in the meantime when Freddie John and Brian checked a certain loudspeaker had Roger disappeared behind his drums!
It commenced a real singing contest when all three exclaimed roger's name to their mics.. Roadies were sent after him
and after about five minutes roger stepped back in to stage looking as innocent as ever with a beer can in a hand.
All gazed him with accusing eyes.. and Brian yelled "Back to your tom toms!" Roger obeyed kindly and rehersals could
go on.
The actual consert was delayed by half an hour, but like an apologise boys then played fairly over an hour.
The visual side had been well taken care of: black and white repeated in costumes, and in Freddie's and Brians nails.
There were smoke bombs and fireworks. The show was one of the most outrageous ever seen in Finland.
The number of loudspeaker sideboards were heavily argued. Volume level didnt over cover the music against my suspicions.
Singing parts (and rogers screams) sounded clearly.
Brians skilled guitar solos played purely and Freddies piano working spoke their own language for the talents of the band.
Roger's and John's seamless co-operation created background for the whole show.
The band was able to keep the audience tightly under their palm through the performance.
As for the only failiar can be taken audiences reluctance to join "Jail house rock"s refrain.
Freddie and john did their best, but eventually gave up. without encore they werent still allowed to go and during
this number the most vivid fans tried to get upfront the stage under strict faced security supervisors.
The mood in dressing room was high; boys were satisfied for the show.
Changing clothes was almost unable to comply and only in 10:40 pm did they land on downstairs of the
culture house to wait their limousine.
For the first on after show program there was supper in Saslik restaurant and then after parties at Safari club.
Especially Roger who was already on high was keen to know what standard place was that.
Uncommonly many fans had stayed in yard despite the lowsy weather and late time.
Doors were almost to fall down when this crowd rushed on them seeing the boys downstairs.
Roger laughed delightedly hearing girls screamin

Thanks!
Thanks really much!
My favourite thing about that is the Finnish translation of "forenoon" for morning.
What a lovely word.
What a lovely word.
Very interesting, thanks for this.
The word "forenoon" was meant to mean after morning but before midday not morning :)
I tried to translate it as accurately as one can wordly from finnish avoiding too freely interpretation to transmit the autenthic experience the journalist saw and felt it.
