I agree with a previous posting that it had stronger songs overall that The Works and A Kind Of Magic although the sound of the latter two albums was probably more in keeping with what people expect of Queen.
Queen were having a kind of identity crisis in the 80s. They seemed desparate to survive commercially whereas perhaps they should just haved strived for excellence like they did in the early days.

Yeah, dumb question, I know, but I actually got round to getting off my lazy ass and buying the album last weekend (among other things... like the giant dildo hidden in the bottom of my bag, :P) and I really can't see why everyone's so negative about it - it's bareable...

Anyway, why do you lot hate it so much? And yes, I know we've discussed this before...

I was gonna make a comment about Hot Space... but my mind stuck on that image: ''A giant dildo hidden in the bottom of my bag...''

Hmm... it is so hard to find real men here Raphaela? Well, in fact I've seen lots of pathetic examples... I won't mention names but you'll figure out later... =P

I'll stick to the ''thread'' Hot Space sucks except Put Out The Fire and ''Feel Like'' - Under Pressure's ''demo'' - Period.

Alex, I would've thought you of all people would understand my sarcastic sense of humour better than half of QZ after all that fighting on the Personal board at the beginning of the year, but okay... Yeah, it's mine, eh? I did NOT buy it for a friend's 18th b-day this weekend, I did NOT buy it to take the piss outta him (he's gay), and I did NOT write it on QZ AT ALL to see who I could freak out ;) :P

yes, why the dildo? well I know why, but there's plenty of batchelors on queenzone !!!

I can do better than most of QZ. :P

Now think about it. If Queen were still together (with Freddie and John) don't you think they would have released a R/B and Rap album.

no.

okay it doesn't suck as compared to other artists but it is by far the worst album Queen ever put together...

Staying Power: barely okay...the synth and horns may have worked on a Freddie solo album but it's not Queen....not enough guitar..cowbell was the best part....but cheesy synth sounds...WAY better in Milton Keys when they could rock it out...

Dancer: Actually rocks and is pretty good....could have rocked more though

Back Chat: Again is okay...nice solo in the end

Body Language: brutal as a song....it's really not much of a song at all...again way more suited as a Freddie solo project

Action This Day: very weak due to the production...lame drum sounds...sounds like it was recorded in a broom closet

Put Out The Fire: Best track on the album...Rocks Big Time

Life Is Real: poignant ballad - Queen calibre

Calling All Girls: Okay as a track on an album - no complaints

Las Palabras De Amor: Probably the second best track

Cool Cat: Again this should have been a Freddie solo project...Great display of his falsetto on a weak backdrop....not worthy of the Queen name though

Under Pressure: I never really considered this to be part of the album since it was a Greatest Hits track before: Obviously this one is classic and one of their best of all time....For a first time buyer..this song may save the album for someone....without it you really have only 3 or four strong tracks

overall....okay I guess but not their best by far
G
really most of Hot Space should have just been a Freddie solo album....then they could have made a proper Queen album in 82/83 time frame...it probably would have saved most of the US fans

Eh? Yeah, so it's weird compared to their other ones but full marks for trying new things!! Why's it gone down so bad in the States? About a year later Michael Jackson released his album (I forget the name...) and it kinda had the same sound - can you say 'instant hit' anyone? What's so bad about Queen doing it?

That's stupid to say Thriller sounded like Hot SPace, thats like saying Manfred Mann sounds like the beatles or the New York DOlls sound like Queen because they both are in the rock genre. Hot Space was a crappy album, an absolute shitty example of the same genre Thriller was in if you want to compare it to Thriller. A shitty example of the same genre dirty mind was in.

It has some both weak and great moments.
My fave tracks from HS are UP, Dancer, Back Chat, LPDA and Cool Cat.
ATD, BC and SP rocked on stage...and i just can't stand Life Is Real.
We love you Mandy!

And I thought I took my taste in music too seriously. LIGHTEN UP!! For Christ's sake, I asked a legitimate question and gave my opinion - which I'm entitled to. Diss me for that? PISS OFF!! Now I'm just irritated...

Hot space not their best for sure but interesting nevertheless some cracking songs and some crap songs.

I've heard a lot worse than this.
