You would think that a journalist would be smart or, if not, able to research. But this has a very misleading or possibly inept statement in it.

Nice long article that speculates about potential Presidential candidates in 2008. Here's the paragraph in question:
''Governors have had much better luck in winning the Oval Office which has given several chiefs executives from various US states to weigh their chances in 2008. Chief among them is actor-turned-politician Arnold Schwarzenegger, currently head of California's state government.''
Did anyone bother to tell the writer (and editor) that Schwarzenegger is Constitutionally barred from becoming President. It's awfully quick to ''weigh your chances'' when they are zilch.
Sometimes I think people are better off ignoring the press altogether.

Good point.

Says they are an international news organization with a Washington bureau. They seem to be important enough, however, for Yahoo to put them on their front page.
Still, someone needs to fact check this better if its going to be seen by a wide audience.

This is the reason why I only watch 'The Daily Show'. The never check their facts, and if they fuck up the information it's all for the sake of humor.
That is sloppy journalism. Even I know that anyone born outside the US can't be President.
Since Arnie must know this too, that was a completely unfounded and made up statement probably for the benefit of causing some kind of sensation. The press would have loved it if the ex-action hero (although term used loosely) was able to, and did, become President.

You wouldn't believe the number of people who actually want to get the Constitution amended so that Ahhhhhnuld can run for President. Good God, what's the world coming to? Have we nothing more important to focus on?
I'm almost in favour of a constitutional amendment so that people born outside the US can run for President. Not so that Arnie can, obviously, but I always thought it was a bit unfair that however well you might be able to do as President, if your mum was on holiday in Canada when you were born, even if you're an American citizen who's been paying taxes all your life, bang goes any chance you had of running the country. With so many immigrants and the fact that the world's becoming a hell of a lot smaller it would be moving with the times.
What's with that rule anyway? Forgive me if I've misunderstood it but I'm just a humble nuclear-free New Zealander.

If you were born outside this country, but with US citizenship (e.g. your parents were in the military and were stationed in Germany, your parents were visiting foreign relatives when you were born) you still count as having been born in the US.
I don't really care whether we scrap that part of the Constitution or not (though I don't see any point in doing it just for the hell of it), but I do NOT want to see it amended just so that Ahhhhhnuld can run.
I would like to see Ahhnuld run for President, so it will be less likely for this country to have another Republican president.
Then again, Bush was re-elected despite of all the mess he created, so in that case it might be quite risky to allow Ahhnuld to run for President. It would be the third time in a row that we elect a completely brainless incompetent moron.

Actually, I kind of like Ahhhhhnuld's politics. He's fairly liberal as Republicans go - he's pro-choice, pro-gun control, and anti-marriage amendment, he's just fiscally conservative. But come on. We cannot have Arnold Schwarzenegger as the leader of the free world.
Ahhhnuld doesn't know shit about politics, Mandy. He's just a puppet of some Californian Republicans who thought it'd be a good idea to have a movie star run for governor.
In all fairness it might have been a better choice to elect Gary Coleman. Sure he's as bad as Ahhnuld, but it'd be damn funny to have him in a press conference and reply to a question by saying...
WHATCHA TALKIN' 'BOUT, WILLIS??

Gotta disagree with you on this one. I've read a lot of what Ahhhhhnuld has said, and he does, at the very least, seem to think for himself. He doesn't toe the line. I am less than thrilled with him, especially since I was supporting my girl Arianna, but it could be worse.
Put it this way: if, by some horrible act of evil forces, he did become President, he would not be as obscenely right-wing as Reagan. It would be comparable to having President Chafee, Collins, McCain, Snowe, Specter, or Voinovich, none of which would make me jump for joy, but none of which would make me leave the country either. We have to be realists here - Al Franken ain't getting into the White House yet.
Hillary 2008!
