it is fascinanting how, being so unlike, they finally met in that message. freddie has been everything kurt couldn't have: freddie cared for his public , kurt simply didn't, but just exposed himself and was great all the same. freddie kept what he was on stage apart from what he was in ordinary life, kurt couldn't do this. Being a singer, an entertainer was part of freddie's creativity, kurt coulnd't get out of the most natural form of expressing his being ill at ease, that is singing.
Kurt seems to express his incapability of being at the same level of one, I suppose, considered to be his master. But the great thing is, that this is only an apparent failure: he made himself the show, he let his frailty lay naked, and this is what attracted people, and fatally undermined his selfconsciousness. Freddie wouldn't have done this for nothing in the world.

spy, that's a great point. Like you say, it's like Cobain couldn't figure out or was simply incapable of putting up a barrier between his personhood and his art, whereas you could say Freddie was great at it. Two extremes, even. Wonder what they would talk about if they had ever met. Or what they're talking about now.

his parents deserted him at 9. he left school at 16 and lived as a tramp for 3 years taking heroin and living under a bridge. playing the guitar got him out of the gutter but didnt change his lifestyle. thats why he died.

Actually, Kurt didn't shoot his hole face off, his body looked like a mannequin because there was no distortion and very little blood in his right ear. Why? because he was dead before he was shot. Murder, not suicide. He had 3 times the lethal dose of heroin injected into him and then he was shot..Heart had already stopped pumping, hence very little blood. Look it up.
