Freddie's microphone

oh, f'got t'say...I still have the original/prototype produced for Freddie's perusal and trial...coincidentally, I'm currently trying to identify photographs of this prototype in performance prior to its return to be used as a pattern/template for the replacement modified/enhanced to Freddie's specific requests.

When did he start using the loose boom? He started his professional career in 1965, but I'm not aware of him using a mic-and-boom combination until much, much later.

there is a clip of the band from Top of the Pops in 1974...it's been suggested that this was one of the first appearances of Freddie's new "style" including the "stub" mic holder/stand.

Surely a mic stand is defined by what it does, i.e. it holds a mic. Freddie's one held his mic, so regardless of the fact that it wasn't mass manufactured by Shure etc... it was therefore a real mic stand!!!

I believe it was during Queen's early days that this happened. Reading Mick Rocks book "Classic Queen" he points out how Freddie had a "regular" mic stand in his photographs of the band performing in the early seventies.

Many years ago Brian Connolly, the now deceased lead singer of Sweet used to break his microphone stand during the concert.

They used to tape it up again and he would "break it" again the next night. Anyway, one day the bandmembers were particularly pee'd off with Brian's behaviour, so they stuck something in it so that he couldn't break it. One can imagine Brian's reaction on stage in front of a crowd when he couldn't break the microphone stand that night.
