Mmmm... I can see your point and even if it was, it probably would not have been in the same vain as it was but for the discussion, let us just say that it was. What are all your beautiful people's opinions on this???
If freddie wasnt ill at all, most of the songs on the miracle, innuendo and made in heavon album would have never been written, seriouse. Maybe if it was written anyway The Show Must Go On would most probs could have been fitted at the end of the show instead of we are the champions maybe.

Something I am curious about. Obviously I view Queen as one group but I always split them up into two categories... 70's Queen and 80's (+) Queen.
Now I personally prefer 70's Queen but being as my favorite song is 'The Show Must Go On' and my second favourite album, 'Innuendo' (my favourite being 'Queen II'), which are both 'later' Queen (hence 1991). Is this just ironic that my favourite song is not from my favourite era?

I totally agree! At the time i heard this song i wasn`t a Queen fan or new anything about them. The funny thing was that by 1991 i was a big fan of Freddie Mercury and his song "Barcelona". And i remember his performance at the Ibiza show in 1988, i was 10 years old and thought that he was different from other tenors (At that time i thought he was a tenor) because he wasn`t fat and he didn`t sang with that tenor voice. And the thing that i thought was really strange was people reaction to him. They just freaked out!!-And so do i!!
Due to that, i became a fan of that guy not realizing who he was.
It was just in 1991, when in Portugal the only thing that was been aired on radios was "Everything i do, i do it for you" by Brian Adams that suddenly i heard "The show must go on" and thought imediatly: "I have to buy this record. And who the f**k is singuing that".
It was only when he died that i realize that he was the same Freddie Mercury i allways loved to hear. And then i realize that this man has sanged my favourite songs ever!! The rest it`s history!!

It's easily my top 5 or 6 favorite queen tunes of all time, and freddie and brian really show why they were the brilliant ones in the band. is it freddie's best vocal performance?...I don't know, it's still one of his all time best, and brian's guitar work is also one of his best. It got some air play here in NY, but never got big for some reason. Sadly, I havn't heard this brilliant song on the radio since the early 90's.

Yet, nothing can be nearly as bad as 'The Show Must Go On' on 'Moulin Rouge'. The whole version was a complete pile of shit, and added to the list of classic pop/rock songs that were musically slaughtered in such a rubbish movie.
I actualy think the song was used to great efect and matched perfectly with that particular moment of the story.
Granted that Moulin Rouge isn't the graeatest film ever, but it was rather refreshing at the time.
And Nikole Kidman can definately sing. Don't dismiss other takes on the song simply because they don't soud as the original version. Personaly I think it is much a greater tribute to make the song your own and create your own interpretation of it than to actualy imitate the original performance.
Robert Plant said just that during his Freddie tribute interview. Nobody can do these songs like Freddie, and frankly they would be fouls to try it.

If it did then i'm very glad to see the song be so popular in a very difficult territory.
It was released as a double-A sided single with "Bohemian Rhapsody" in USA after Wayne's World premiere...
... but The Show Must Go On was the first track and was also the track on the cassette case in BIG writing.
Sorry. I guess I am the only one who doesn't care for the melody of TSMGO. I can really appreciate the excellent elements though: Freddie's singing, the guitar, the lyrics and the situation under which they wrote and recorded the song. I don't know why it doesn't "get" to me like it gets to everybody else.
Love of My Life is what is emotional to me, and is the best song to get me choked up when I think of Freddie and his great talent and how much I love him. It's so Freddie. I mean, I can tell it was coming right from his heart (melody and lyrics). And I imagine him singing it to Mary. Also, I love Brian's guitar on it. So delicate. (I prefer the live versions - I didn't really care for the harp - I think the harp is too much and therefore takes away from the song). It was really the best tribute Brian could have given to Freddie - during the recent concerts.

I like the live versions too.. if only it was recorded with guitar in the studio,
