No, it's not possible, now cut the bullshit and just ignore the assholes!

Amen!!!

...and another Amen.

Queenonline has moderation ... and power corrupts their moderators.

I can ignore the wind-up merchants and the whiners, but moderation would be the final death knell for Queenzone.

Last week an idiot called Sue Allen something posted a fake "Reuters news item" about John Deacon's alleged death. Incredibly cruel and thoughtless. I deleted the poster and several new accounts but s/he came back with another account and has a thread in the personal forum with 46 replies. Her/his sig says: cast the first stone, Orchard.

Ahhh..so THAT is what that sig is all about.... I missed that John thread entirely.

But John Deacon's dead!! Didn't you know that??

Last year he got beaten up to death by his wife Veronica after she started surfing Queenzone and found those pictures of John at a strip club. The mad woman won't even allow this poor man to have a little lap dance, and now he's dead because all he wanted was to grab a nicely shaped pair of tities that unfortunatelty his wife no longer had.

R.I.P. - John 'Deacy' Deacon (1949-2004).

Well..I'll be damned...;-)

I see that all those saying 'Amen' are quite willing to see QueenZone being dragged into the 10th level of shitiness.

The problem iwith Moderation is NOT the principle of it alone, but the lottery of having a decent moderator. QueenOnline may well be over-moderated, but I don't see any reason why QueenZone shouldn't have something called 'standards'.

I belong to several other message boards that are very sensibly moderated - it could happen here too. Only the racist fuckwits need worry about being censored.

On the contrary. This board does not, should not ever, and has never needed babysitters. It would be ideal if every poster had some self control and posted useful, interesting information. It would also be ideal if we all could learn to skip over the things we don't care to read about from posters that are known to post garbage. If a poster that doesn't already have a reputation for posting nonsense posts something that you don't happen to agree with and would like to comment on, by all means....have a debate! But don't feed into someone's cries for attention, get yourself bent out of shape in the process then announce you are leaving QZ. Don't leave...stay and ignore their crap posts.

Say you go to a book store to buy a cookbook bc you are interested in cooking. You already know you can't stand self-help books. Do you skip the self-help section and go to the cooking section bc you already know that is what you are interested in or do you go to the self-help section to spend your whole experience at the store in the self-help section yelling to the store manager that this section should not be allowed in the store? What I'm trying to get at is we all don't agree on what is acceptable on here and what isn't but the fact is is that this board is unmoderated. This means we are free to chose what we want to write on here and we are free to choose what we want to read on here.

QZ is not a utopia and neither is the real world. I've said this before, this board is what we make of it. If you want a nice place to discuss Queen, get cool concerts, make new friends, etc. then DO THAT. If you want to yell to Barb every time someone posts something that you don't agree with, you are wasting a lot of your own time as well as Barb's.

If you don't like it, just skip over it. What you don't read won't hurt you or your personal beliefs. If there are racists on this board, let them be racists. Don't waste your energy trying to convince them how to live their own lives.

Right on.

It doesn't need what you would characterise as a 'babysitter', it needs a strong, but fair moderator to delete the posts by the people who go too far. Barbara already fullfills this role to a certain extent (bless her), but still the scum persists in sticking to the board.

If I walk down the street and avoid stepping on dog shit, then I'm not going to get dirty shoes. However, I still don't particularly want to see shit lying on the pavement (who does?).

If we have the analagous power to clean up the street, then why don't we do so, especially as it's only the odd turd here and there?

I certainly would never be forced out by the behaviour of a small number of idiots, and you're right that the board would be considerably better if the decent people hung around. Nonetheless, everyone has a limit.

Interesting analogy, but we are not talking about indivual likes or dis-likes here; we are talking about issues that are almost universally regarded by society as taboos, such as out-and-out racisim. I certainly do not like the idea of black people visiting this board and seeing that comments such as 'nig-nog' are left when we have the power to delete them. It is simply unacceptable.

QZ is not a utopia and neither is the real world.

Well, of course not and I don't expect it to be so. However, we should at least draw a line SOMEWHERE - an extreme point beyond which behaviour is democratically deemed to be unacceptable by members of the forum.

I've said this before, this board is what we make of it. If you want a nice place to discuss Queen, get cool concerts, make new friends, etc. then DO THAT. I'm not talking about individual dislikes; instead I'm referring to extreme behaviour that might be exhibited by the odd 1% of posters. As I've already stated, Barabara already does some moderating of the GOOD KIND and I hope she continues in a similar vien. We, the members of QueenZone need to decide when an indivual's behaviour goes beyond the point where they are no longer welcome here. Why is it a bad thing to aspire to having some kind of standards around here?

I'm not talking about swearing or anything like that (shit, no!). Just the abominable stuff that we have the power to remove.

If you don't like it, just skip over it.

I do, as I'm sure a lot of other posters do. However, clea

What you assmunches need to keep in mind is that this is one of 1,224,333,663,345,335,667 forum/chat websites on the net.

You act as though we are all here to conquer terrorism.

I love you guys trying to act "hard and intellectual" on the Queenzone chat room.

You didn't have a date tonight, you didn't leave the house... you drank 2 beers, and jerked off all over yourself.... and "told off them 13 yr olds on a internet chat forum."

Talking about midgets eating poop is more rewarding than listening to some of you clowns get philosophical on EVERY FUCKING TOPIC.

I have to say, I haven't noticed a single one of those offensive posts pointed out by Brenski. This is because I only go to the interesting looking topics started by real posters. I avoid a lot of crap this way.
The problem I see with moderating is not people going on power trips because I trust Richard's judgement but where to draw a line. What one person sees as racist might wash over someone else. I don't object to swear words but others might. I have no objection to people who say "oh my god" or "Jesus Christ" although I know for a fact that some are offended by that.
If you try and please everyone you obliterate free speech. Remember on South Park when Kyle's mum kicked up a stink about religion? Instead of carols at the Christmas play they got stuck with Phillip Glass.
Please, don't let QZ get stuck with Phillip Glass.
When life hands you lemons, add vodka.

I think if a majority of people on here think that a certain person's baehvaiour is unacceptable, then something should be done about it, don't you think?

Surely, the term "nig-nog" is almost as racist as you could possibly get? Don't forget, only a very few people would be censored on this board as the vast majority are decent people, from what I can tell.

How would we react to someone openly promoting paedaphilia, I wonder? Ignore it?

It's worth to make a little effort to make the board a better place. It's easy. Just look at the interesting topics that drop down the page like a stone and on the other side all the sutpid threads getting loads of replies.

HERE, HERE- 100% RIGHT. Just look at "Freddie was not so great" thread- six pages of replies!!!! And than ppl complain that we have crap on this board- but by all those replies, written by those "offended" the thread was/is being kept alive and on tp of the list... We decide what's being talked about- if someone posts something stupid and everybody will ignore it- no-one will know about it, it'll disappear ina week. Someone may innitaiate stir up, but there's two to tango- endless "yeah, I agree- we should ban him" keeps every single thread and problem very much alive...

I agree with the fact that anyone who is going to start a thread that will purposely annoy others should be banned, or the thread be deleted.

Apart from that everything is great.

This is exactly how I feel. Ian, if it is just 1% of the posters here that post crap then it should be very easy for us to skip over that 1% right? :)
