On the contrary. This board does not, should not ever, and has never needed babysitters
It doesn't need what you would characterise as a 'babysitter', it needs a strong, but fair moderator to delete the posts by the people who go too far. Barbara already fullfills this role to a certain extent (bless her), but still the scum persists in sticking to the board.
It would be ideal if every poster had some self control and posted useful, interesting information. It would also be ideal if we all could learn to skip over the things we don't care to read about from posters that are known to post garbage.
If I walk down the street and avoid stepping on dog shit, then I'm not going to get dirty shoes. However, I still don't particularly want to see shit lying on the pavement (who does?).
If we have the analagous power to clean up the street, then why don't we do so, especially as it's only the odd turd here and there?
If a poster that doesn't already have a reputation for posting nonsense posts something that you don't happen to agree with and would like to comment on, by all means....have a debate! But don't feed into someone's cries for attention, get yourself bent out of shape in the process then announce you are leaving QZ. Don't leave...stay and ignore their crap posts.
I certainly would never be forced out by the behaviour of a small number of idiots, and you're right that the board would be considerably better if the decent people hung around. Nonetheless, everyone has a limit.
Say you go to a book store to buy a cookbook bc you are interested in cooking. You already know you can't stand self-help books. Do you skip the self-help section and go to the cooking section bc you already know that is what you are interested in or do you go to the self-help section to spend your whole experience at the store in the self-help section yelling to the store manager that this section should not be allowed in the store? What I'm trying to get at is we all don't agree on what is acceptable on here and what isn't but the fact is is that this board is unmoderated. This means we are free to chose what we want to write on here and we are free to choose what we want to read on here
Interesting analogy, but we are not talking about indivual likes or dis-likes here; we are talking about issues that are almost universally regarded by society as taboos, such as out-and-out racisim. I certainly do not like the idea of black people visiting this board and seeing that comments such as 'nig-nog' are left when we have the power to delete them. It is simply unacceptable.
QZ is not a utopia and neither is the real world.
Well, of course not and I don't expect it to be so. However, we should at least draw a line SOMEWHERE - an extreme point beyond which behaviour is democratically deemed to be unacceptable by members of the forum.
I've said this before, this board is what we make of it. If you want a nice place to discuss Queen, get cool concerts, make new friends, etc. then DO THAT. If you want to yell to Barb every time someone posts something that you don't agree with, you are wasting a lot of your own time as well as Barb's.
I'm not talking about individual dislikes; instead I'm referring to extreme behaviour that might be exhibited by the odd 1% of posters. As I've already stated, Barabara already does some moderating of the GOOD KIND and I hope she continues in a similar vien. We, the members of QueenZone need to decide when an indivual's behaviour goes beyond the point where they are no longer welcome here. Why is it a bad thing to aspire to having some kind of standards around here?
I'm not talking about swearing or anything like that (shit, no!). Just the abominable stuff that we have the power to remove.
If you don't like it, just skip over it.
I do, as I'm sure a lot of other posters do. However, clea
