i know ive said it before but thats what i lost my mother to lung cancer(small-cell) just over 4months ago and i saw her suffer in terrible pain so i know what her family is going thru,
I'm afraid I am all too familiar with small cell cancer, as well. My father had mesothelioma.. It was so ironic to me that he got cancer from asbestos instead of smoking. He was heavy smoker from the age of 14. Lung cancer has to be one of the most horrible ways to go..
erin im sorry to hear that:( i can relate with ya tho. small-cell is the worst, also we are seeing a lot of cases now of asbestos related lung cancer. erin if you dont mind me asking did your dad battle a long time with it?

December of 2003 we found out he had lung cancer..they just didn't know what kind yet. At that point, we were told 3 years. Once they found out it was mesothelioma, 3 years turned into 18 months. He started to take a sharp decline in Nov/Dec of last year and passed away February 2nd. So, really it was about 13 months once he received the diagnosis. I won't go into it on here, but the last couple of weeks were just terrible. How long did your mother's battle last?

My mom and dad who are deceased both smoked SIX packs a day. My grandmother who is deceased smoked SIX packs a day.
My dad died when I was 7 of heart disease, diabetes, etc.
My Mom had many types of cancer before she died.
My grandmother died of colon cancer when I was only 18.
My aunt was a chainsmoker but quit in her 30's after she got cervical cancer but was still trying to have a baby with my uncle.
I have NEVER smoked, and never wanted to, BUT I lived with my mom til my early 30's and have been exposed non stop to 2nd hand smoke my entire life, so I am scared to death of getting cancer and I am sure I am a prime candidate.

And I probably sound like Brian....but...music is my great love..yet all the music concerts, venues I go to have people smoking NON-stop and all my musician friends smoke non stop.
When I was younger, smoke actually didn't bother me at all.
Now I get deathly ill, with rashes all over my face and body, I cough horrible, and even get stomach pains when I breathe in too much for too long.

i get sick with bronchial diseases. its very painful.
btw doesn anybody understand why asthmatics smoke? wtf? ive had friends who claim to be asthmatic TO SMOKE and they do it anyway. it either means they wanan die fast er or they realyl dont have it
I had a roommate a few years ago who was so asthmatic she would constantly use her inhalor/ventilator in front of me, yet she smoked non-stop, making both ME and herself ill.
Her boyfriend took her to the hospital ER several times but BOY did she get angry with me whenever I would diplomatically suggest quiiting smoking.
She just didn't give a shit...about killing herself, or me.
Needless to say...I moved out of that place I shared with her. The smoke was killing me. She wants to kill herself fine. She's not subjecting me to her idiocy.

@erin,
well my mothers doc took nearly 3months to send her for blood tests and an exray as my mother first fell ill with her back she could barely walk it turns out she had a fractured spine and a collapsed vertibrae* and her doc sarcasticly said well we all get bad backs(grrrr) only wen my mother was slurring and gettin confused and dizzy doc sent her for blood tests etc.. turns out she had lung cancer and it was possible it had spread to her bones, she eventualy went anorexic and she tried to battle until she could no more and she lasted about 6 months it had spread to her stomach, but she suffered terrible pain the whole 6 months, its a really horrible way to go so i sympathize with you totally,
arlene im so sorry sweetheart of your loss:(

Flash00 Thank you.
The real shame of it all is 98% of my family was already deceased before I was born or died when I was still a child...and ALL of their deaths were preventable.
Everyone in my family was a chainsmoker their entire lives, as well as some being obese.
Even my 2 godparents through marriage (not real godparents. that's just what I called them) that I was fortunate to get in my early 20's when my Aunt married (her husband's parents) ALSO were both chainsmokers and both died by my mid twenties after I became very close to them, and they had come to my college graduation as sort of my surrogate family. Now they are long deceased as well. All for stupid cancer sticks.

My Nan died of cancer - hadn't smoked for 40 years.
My Grandad died of cancer - hadn't smoked for 40 years.
My Aunt Carol died of cancer - never smoked.
My Aunt Rene died of cancer - never smoked.
My Uncle Tom died of cancer - smoked the odd roll up.
My Uncle Fred died of cancer - smoked roll ups that were so thin you'd shit yourself with the effort.
My Uncle Jim died of cancer - never smoked.
My Uncle Reg died of cancer - never smoked.
My Aunt Joan has cancer - never smoked.
My dear Mum has cancer - she has never smoked.
I smoke and I know I will get cancer - with my family history I am fucked either way, so I might as well enjoy a cigarette while I can.

I think it runs in the family don't you think Bob. I'm so sad to hear that your mother and auntie have cancer. I wish them the very best of luck and i wish you the best of luck in not getting it.
