Paul rodgers does not belong in any picture
with Freddie. He is not in the same league as Freddie.

That's certainly true... It would be nice to know for certain, but Brian doesn't really make it easy for us.

To ME it sounds pretentious when Brian throws in a previously unknown fact just in time to promote the upcoming tour. It doesn't really help that I've been let down by recent Queen projects, and I've been pointing my finger to the person in charge... :P

Despite all that, I'll be more than happy to hear something to confirm his words, or anything else to restore my faith in QP!

Have to say I agree with this too.

I certainly can't speak for Freddie, but in the gazillions of interviews with him, even as his influences that he cited changed...God I think I even recall Freddie in 1 interview in the mid 80's saying he liked Culture Club, well they were a new artist on the music scene at that time so he cited them, and of course there are those he repeatedly mentioned/cited such as Hendrix, Aretha Franklin, Liza Minelli, Montserrat Caballe,...

...but never, not even once have I ever read or heard Freddie so much as mention Paul Rodgers, Free, Bad Company.

I still think Brian did a little spin doctoring to enhance Paul's validity to the 2005 Queen audience by giving Paul the Freddie Mercury stamp and seal of approval.

I would buy that. It's probably best that Brian and Roger didn't pick someone that Freddie really was a fan of for the tour..;-)

Erin, I know you're kidding..BUT..really...who the hell were Brian and Roger going to get otherwise.

I don't think (last I heard) that Hendrix was in a state physically capable of fronting this tour ;-)

and of course Aretha, Liza, Montserrat are not exactly people who though many of us love them, would be appropriate to front Queen...

..so Brian and Roger had to think this through and find someone who could do it and be as faithful to Queen's songs and the rock vibe as possible..but because Freddie's legacy is so huge and he is so beloved and was such an amazing talent, obviously, Brian and Roger wanted to assure as little dissent from Queen fans about their choice as possible.

But...I mean if you like, we can always put in our 2 cents worth that Liza, Aretha, or Montserrat should have fronted this tour. ;-)

You never know, they probably could sing hell out of TSMGO and WATC! LOL!

You know that VH1 show they do once every year, ''Divas Live'', (which Aretha has been on!), well yeah...I think that's what Brian and Roger should have done. To hell with Paul Rodgers!

Actually get all 3, Liza, Aretha, and Montserrat, doing the 2005 Queen+Divas Live Tour, with Jimi Hendrix's brother (whose name eludes me, also a guitarist) playing rhythm guitar.

Freddie would have loved it! ;-)
