the answer to poodle question why did they not change their band name ?
cos they dont want to and if they did they cant play queen songs under a different band name

Basically I think they (and mainly Brian) ran as far from Queen as an entity as possible after Fred died. I believe their sentiments at the time were genuine.
Then Roger and John started to work on MIH and Brian joined in and they completed that.
Another small break, and then No-one but you.
and then various Queen related products (DVDs etc) and then the musical, and Brian and Roger had come back to embrace all things Queen and could enjoy it all again.
So I think they didn't really get into a space where they were comfortable with each other until around 1997 or even until the musical started, and then it wasn't until they connected with PR that it seemed viable to them. With the lack of new material, it had to be Queen + PR for all the marketing reasons we acknowledge, and hey presto to tour is born.
That's my take on it

Maybe we should call the police about about all those times they performed Queen songs on solo tours, or with the Cross. :P
