What's everyone's opinion on Eminem? I like him, myself.

Me no!

I've got a lot of time for Eminem, be it solo, in d12, or on other peoples songs, and his production has come a long way over the years too.

There are a few people on here who I get the impression that they say they hate rap and all that just to say becuase they think they'll get more respect for it. In my opinion, you'll get respect for liking what you like. And, as far as I'm concerned, rap is as much a part of the music world as rock n roll.

Anyway, Eminem is, lyrically, a genius. He can seemingly write about anything. He can be so serious or flip and make light of anything. I've got a lot of respect for him for who he is, and what he has done for the music business in general.

Can't wait to listen to people saying how much of an idiot he is and all the other stuff that has nothing to do with his music.

Good for you!!!! You have passed your period of "I see dead people". I prefer to hear you liking Eminem than Ron Goldman

But I don't like Eminem nearly as much as I like Ron Goldman. Ron Goldman was a true gentleman. And he played tennis, too! ^_^

I agree with you on a lot of points.

Although I can't say that I'm any close to admiring Eminem as a person, I have to say that he's a very creative lyric writer. Sure, musically the guy doesn't know shit, but so does Bob Dylan.

May I ask, and I don't mean in an argumentative way at all Mr Jingles, but when you say he doesn't know shit musically, how do you mean?

From the point of view of instruments? From the point of view of hip-hop prodcution? Becuase, in all fairness, he may be no Dr Dre, but his production, for a relative new-starter, isn't at all bad, and always fits his songs well. And I'd go as far as saying you know when a song is produced by Eminem, he's kinda got that sound, like Dre.

And when I said I admire him as a person, I meant from the point of view that he has had many problems, like all of us. He's had his problems with drugs and he has dealt with them, whether thru his lyrics or otherwise. He's had his family problems, but never jeapourdises his daughter per se, and he doesn't necessarily dwell upon the peopel who hate him, he just says what he thinks and gets on with it (or winds them up more). And in my mind, I respect that.

When it comes to writing melodies and all sorts of background hip-hop music Eminem probably doesn't have the slightest knowledge about it, but then again the great majority of rappers don't. Besides, it seems like Timbaland is in charge of the music for just about every single rapper in the business.

Eminem is still brilliant because he really puts his whole heart into everything he writes. I know a lot of people don't like his music because it basically spreads all sorts of hatred, but by analizing well his lyrics you can tell that the guy is a genius when it comes to venting all his anger.

I agree with both of you.

At first...I did NOT like Eminem. It's not that I say I don't like rap just to say it. My problem stems frms that so much of the material is intentinally homophobic, rascist, and incredibly misogynist.

But...then again, I realize that rock, country, blues have writers, singers..and lyrics that are often worse. Listen to the song ''Under My Thumb'' by The Rolling Stones, the Charles Manson song covered by Guns N' Roses or many of Johnny Cash's, Townes van Zandt's, and Merle Haggard's songs about beating up their women and strangling them.

As for the gangster aspect, take a listen to blues artist T-Model Ford and your head will spin..makes Eminem and 50 Cent seem like boy scouts.

After my ''shock'' value turned to reality of ALL genre's of music containing this...I gave Eminem a chance.

Like you all said, I do not think much of him as a person, but he is very clever, creative, and inovative in crossing rap over to the mainstream and is as good a lyricist as any of his contemporaries in rap, or other forms of music.

When the Academy Awards (who are VERY conservative judges and don't normally gave an oscar to even a rock song that's nominated) gave Eminem an Oscar for ''Lose Yourself'', the theme from ''8 Mile'', which I love the inspirational lyrics to...I really started to respect what he does and I think he will be a great mentor and producer of fresh talent, which I hear is what he is planning to do.

Not a fan.
"Elton John and I became really good friends. I don't mean 'good friends' in that sense. I just mean we slept together." -Billy Joel

Lyrically he's probably a genius. Music can be a little repetitive as is all hip-hop/rap whatever. But lyrics are always spot on.
Guess who's back?

Good Rapper but dont really like him

I liked him before the novelty wore off. Now I can't really see what all the fuss is about.
When life hands you lemons, add vodka.

He's one of the few rappers I can tolerate...I always liked Lose Yourself especially.
Resistance is futile. You are now an orb.

Ditto.

He's my favourite though, when it comes to rappers. He IS a genius, when it comes to his lyrics.

I especially like his song "Lose Yourself" and its take on Michael Jackson. He could be very well THE "Weird Al" Yankovic of rap music, if he wanted to do that.
I
I'm not too fond of him but I do respect him.
