I was just listening to "return of the champions" i have to say this new version is probably the best version of this song i heard. I thought the 1998 version i heard was great, but this version just floored me, brian and paul with a tremendous duet in my opinion. would this version make a great single? i think so, but, when the song turns fast paul loses some of his edge, or else it would be a no brainer hit.

They're too much different, IMO, I can't compare them and say which one is better really...
hey alex, cum to new york, i'll show you around. i'll show you how it's done (mike hunt style) bring it on baby.
I quite like this newer version. I love the harmonies. It would've been great to hear Freddie sing it like this.
The new hammer to fall, great harmonies in the beginning and it's stunning to hear Paul's voice taking it over.
i agree, a masterpiece if you will.
I like it a lot. In fact, the more I listen to the CD, the more I am digging Paul and his singing style.
With the exceptions of I Want To Break Free and I Want It All, his voice fits the songs well....
I just do not care for the I Want It All live...it sounds off for some reason. Has the entire tour.

I like the new version
First slow then grows fast and powerful!
But ofcourse the old is still great!

The definitive version is the Headbangers mix with extended drum intro and orgasmic guitar, simply mind blowing, Queen at their most metalic majestic best

I first learned of a slow version of Hammer to Fall last year when I was sharing karaoke tracks here (before it was against the rules) and some kind bloke posted a slow instrumental version, which was either from a Brianmay.com download, or perhaps not.. there was some debate over that as I recall.
Anyway, I couldn't believe how beautiful the song was when slowed down and I was informed that Brian had performed it this way in some of his solo shows.
But ROTC was my first time hearing it with vocal and everything. When it started I got goosebumps, thinking "YES! It's the slow version!" and I loved it... and then they go into the standard speed version and I loved it even more. It's definitely one of my top favourites from the show.

Hahahaha, yes! What a club it is indeed. Welcome aboard, Alex! Your membership package will soon arrive in the mail.
The '98 version of Hammer To Fall rocked! I actually prefer this version to the '05 version. I like how it remained slow for the third verse and chorus, and then it finally hits the rock part after that. Very effective!
