Do you prefer Peter Gabriel after Genesis or Genesis after Peter Gabriel?
I prefer Gabriel but I do like some of the Collins era Genesis.

That's a tough question...
PGPG has certainly had his peaks and valleys. I love his live work, most of the regular studio albums, and his work on the Real World label.
PPGG was the one that got me interested in all the related artists, and it has been far more even in its output. Occasionally even to the point of blandness... In concerts they are of course brilliant.
I wouldn't want to choose between them, because I think they complement each other. It was probably one of the best decisions in the history of music for PG to leave Genesis, because it benefited both of them. And it's great to have two different artists you can listen to depending on your mood.
Probably out of those two I listen to PPGG a bit more, because it doesn't require quite so much concentration. :P

Peter Gabriel is a musical genius. His early solo work was weird, great, but not terribly commercuially successful. MTV, though, propelled his popularity immensely. His last studio album, Up, while not commercially as successful as So and Us, is absolutely a masterpiece. One of my top 10 faves.
Genesis has ALL of their commercial successes after PG left, and while in the 70's and 80's their albums were excellent, they moved towards the pop crap on Invisible Touch that unfortunately pervaded 80's music.
They followed that up with We Can't Dance, which found them finding a rock sound again.
When Phil quit, it spelled the end.....

I think I prefer Gabriel, apart mabe from the "Sledgehammer" period... Man, that was an awful album...
But i really prefer Genesis WITH Gabriel :)

Genesis with Peter Gabriel is much better that it is with Phil Collins as lead vocalist! I only got "Foxtrot", but I shall buy all albums made in the Peter Gabriels area.. Supper's Ready is a great song!
This is the same Peter Gabriel that sang "Biko" and "In Your Eyes", among other songs (which I'm not for the most part familiar with), right?

I think the best thing Genesis ever did was A Trick Of The tail, which, I believe, was the first post- Gabriel album. Robbery, Assult and Battery and Ripples are supurb.
And btw. I like "Invisible Touch". I remember the live music video from Wembley, when they were showing it on MuchMoreMusic here in Canada some years ago.
