I personally don't think The Works is overrated considering the album it followed. The songs from The Works were still much better that 90% of the crap at the time.
"You Can Be Anything You Want To Be"
Underrated:

Great King Rat, Breakthru, I'm In Love With My Car, You Don't Fool Me, Modern Times Rock 'n' Roll, Coming Soon
"It's Real Honor To Be Here Tonight" Brian May Newcastle Metro Radio Arena Tuesday 4th November 2008
Overrated: 90's Queen. I understand there were some good hits, like "Innuendo", "The Show Must Go On", and "Heaven For Everyone", but even you will admit Queen started to lose their fire in teh late 80's, with Freddie's AIDS and the band's lack of success in the US at that time.

Underrated: There's two things here:

One - Hot Space. Yes, it is one of their lackluster efforts, but for God's sake, think of it this way: It was an experimental album, something that they wanted to try on for a bit. IMO it is great, I am a huge fan of 80's music, and this is as 80's as it gets, so I like it.

Two - The Works. "Radio Ga Ga", "I Want To Break Free", "Hammer To Fall", "Tear It Up", it's all good to me. Some people like a few songs, but despise the rest of the album. How can you, though?
Usually when I hear a song or two from an album, I will buy the album and listen to all the tracks. And most of the time, I will like a lot of them. As is the case with The Works. My faves are "Tear It Up", "Machines", and "Keep Passing The Open Windows". Especially the drum opening in KPTOW. Again, it's very "80's".

There you have it.
We can only grow the way the wind blows On a bare and weathered shore We can only bow to the here and now In our elemental war - Rush, "The Way The Wind Blows"
Underrated: Princes of the Universe, Let Me Live, Feel Like (Unreleased demo, that turned into Under Pressure)

Overrated: Killer Queen, It's A Hard Life

Ah thanks im overrated... ;P
"I'm a greedy bitch" - Freddie Mercury REST IN PEACE FREDDIE MERCURY!!
Underrated: Hot Space (ok, it's got a few bad songs... but not all bad). Some of the 80's songs just because they had synths. Brian's voice. Queen 1.

Overrated: Brian's guitar solos. Q+PR.
"The bigger the better... in everything" - Freddie

Mike Cunt- go play on a busy crossroads. You must be a real fan o'mine, you keep reading very carefully all my posts...
many people on this site say that Freddie was the best vocalist ever. I don't and you don't but many people on this site DO. I think as a perfect vocalist he's overrated. He wasn't. He may have been the biggest showman AND a great vocalist, but... Man, do you actually understand English? Do you know what an "opinion" is? Can you live with the fact that someone has a different opinion to yours? And why white man are generally crap in basketball? And why am I replying to someone who can't even get my nick right and himself has a surname "Cunt". I did get your nick right, didn't I...?
[/QUOTE]

well..good point..and it's your "opinion" too..:)
you know..you can not choose "the best"..it depends on your criterias.. vocal range? it may be mike matijevic .. emotion ? it's relative..may be vocal technique ? it must be carlos broschi ? ..

but "if you ask" me..freddie is the overall winner of them.. you can not indicate a certain decision that must be accepted by all over the world..

regards..

But that's what I'm saying! Man, the thread is overrated / underrated. I just gave my opinion in a post and there it is, Mr Cunt attacking it. You amy disagree, fine, but that's not the first time he did it in childish manner. My opinion (and it was never more than that) is that Freddie ISN'T the best vocalist EVER, especially live and those who are saying this are IMO overrating him. That's it, that's where it ends. It's not general truth- this thread is NOT about general truths. To one Dreamer's Ball is underrated, to another Fun It. None is right, none is wrong. But if I suddenly said- Fun It underrated? The song is crap, what you're talking about, you're stupid- mature? intelligent? What's your point anyway? Disgree with me? Fine, we can even discuss it if you want... But i can assure you I wasn't indicating a certain decission taht must be accepted all over the world... I was just stating my opinion and from the very satrt I was aware of it. Which I thought was clear when I said "I think" nad mentioned word "opinion"...
PS
Who's Mike Matijevic? Forgive my ignorance :)

Vocalist from Steelheart band
pal,he is ex-lead vocal of Steelheart..if you want to hear him singin' really high.. i can reccomend you this song to listen "She's Gone - Steelheart" if you can't find let me know and i'll send it to you..

he has a real soprano high range..can hit A6 with falsetto (and freddie did hit D6 in a concert with falsetto)..not bad with low notes too..but not very very good..i think his range is about 4 octaves A2 to A6..

meanwhile may be adam lopez's or maria carey's range is higher than him but i don't count their range as "well used" personally..mike's tessittura is better than them..
Thanks, will have to check him out

Underrated for is Queen II... and I am not realy fund of Flash Gordon (maybe because there isn't much lyric in it)

What I do like is Freddies version of Polar bear which challanges the high notes more than in Tims version and I do quite like this high notes...

what I do like at Freddie is the fact that he is a selfmade man who learnt (thought) himself vocals by crossing the limits... I heard some classic college (professional) ever telling that he could have easly been a valuble tenor....!!!
overrated is made in heaven
underrated loads of songs and albums are underrated
a day at the races never gets a look in when it comes to the press
i think it is a cracker with no duff songs on it

overrated song - another one bites the dust

underrated song - was it all worth it
we've no ancestral halls, no haughty portraits on our walls, no family monuments at all, unless it's my cousin sheila's stupendous clevage.
