Dire Straits

Any Body Like them here

Kind of... Love Over Gold and Brothers In Arms are good records, also like "On Every Street" nad live ones "Alchemy" and ""On Every night". BUT- this is not something I'd listen too often, too soft, too... middleage... :P

I like to listen to them occasionally, and I even went to a Mark Knopfler concert recently...

I have to say that he was a far more convincing tribute act than Bri & Rog. ;)

Money for nothing and chicks for free - what could be better?!

I always though Dire Straits was very boring.

So Far Away, Sultans Of Swing, Industrial Disease, Twisting By The Pool, Skateaway, and the album version of Money for Nothing (not the single edit version) are awesome.

Mark Knopfler Great guitar player!!... great songs though...

Dire Straits are a fantastic band and Mark Knopfler is one of the best guitarists of all time.

However it is not 'cool' to like them, hence alot of people will stay away. That's their loss.

Mark Knofler is a massively underrated guitarist. In the words of Tommy Vance - "Great player, but why doesn't he just cane the son of a bitch?"

they were great live - well the music was...but had no real stage presence

there's still a few great tracks i will ALWAYS stop and listen to:

but is kinda difficult to listen to lots of dire straits in one sitting - you have to be in the right frame of mind i think

For the most part, I find Mark Knopfler a fantastic songwriter and guitarist and ok singer, but I just found Dire Straits music overall dull and boring.

Romeo and Juliet was the one song I really love and still do.

I found they were a band that studio wise on record was yawn city....

...however...LIVE...they were an entire different animal and quite exciting. I haven't personally been to any of their shows, but I saw them on TV perform at Live Aid (thet were brilliant) and at several of the Amnesty International Concerts (one with Eric Clpaton ''guesting'' beside Mark Knopfler).

FYI....show ya what a great songwriter Knopfler is, did you know he wrote the film soundtracks to ''Wag The Dog'', ''The Princess Bride''....

....and....the song ''Private Dancer'' FOR Tina Turner, which is told from the perspective of a spent, cynical, sad woman reflecting on the hopelessness and despair of her life.

I only found out he wrote that song about a year or so ago in a documentary with him and was blown away. Tina Turner said GREAT things about his songwriting.

Meh, not in my top 50....

I have to admit Mark Knopfler is a great guitarist, but aside from that there's nothing else to look forward on Dire Straits.
