I've seen Elton twice - both times with Billy Joel. He put on a great show both times. Highlights were "Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding" and "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me." Enjoy the show.

I saw him & Billy a few years ago. I took my mom to see them since she's a big fan of both. Too bad Elton's voice is totally different now. His 70's songs sound so different when he sings them now, IMO. But it was a very good concert...especially since we got $125 tickets, 3rd row lower arena seats right next to the stage, for only $85 about 15 minutes before the show started.

$88 each plus about $18 in stupid convenience charges. It was about $200 for the both of them.

I always wondered just what exactly Ticketmaster's "convenience" charges are. Who are they "convenient" for??? Certainly not the buyer!.... :-P

True. His voice in the 70s was really good. He was never an exceptionally skilled singer, but he could hit those high notes and had good control. He voice is a bit ragged in his old age, and has naturally lowered some, as always happens. I think Billy was always a better singer, but he was having throat problems some years ago, and though he's had good spots since then, he's never been quite the same. Of course, he's gotten older too, now. I think Billy's voice was at its peak around 1983. Elton's was definately in the early/mid 70s.

Oh please, anyone who believes it was the surgery that changed his voice (which kept deteriorating even after the surgery) should have a reality check.
Substant abuse. Marijuana smoking = not very good for your voice. Cocaine? Not too good either.
Alcohol = Not either too good.
Too much touring = Definitely not too good.

He had a major drop througout the 1980's. Sounding awful in 1986 especially. After the surgery he did sound rather clear and nice again, lacking the high's which he couldn't hit before the surgery anyway. So he didn't really lose anything by then.
But since the early 90's constant touring (tour with the band, solo tour, Face2Face, Las Vegas, whatever tour) all these constant tours througout the 90's seem to have severely stressed his voice and the result is an apalling wretched sound. He has to be kidding himself to think he sounds better than ever on "Peachtree Road"
Therefor I have decided to start calling the condition that causes singer's voices to go shittier than they have to, due to work-a-holic-like-over-touring "Elton John'itis"
Other prime examples of people suffering from "Elton John'itis" would be Don Henley and Glenn Frey of Eagles. They also do constant human-jukebox tours as part of Eagles, while filling tour-breaks with their own solo dates. The results are apalling.
