I've read alot of bad things about her...the way I see it is....Freddie had to have some reason to leave her what he did. I myself am a fag hag......no offense to Freddie, Mary, or anyone........I have no problem with gay people. I read somewhere that her family disowned her because she was living with freddie...maybe he felt sorry for her. Or maybe they were lovers.....i'm not sure, but she should at least show some repect for the fans. I think repainting the wall day after day is stupid. she should not have painted it in the first place. After his death she told all of his help to leave the house. and it seemed as though she couldn't wait until he passed before she moved in........very disrepectful. Maybe if we heard more from her....something good!..ha!....we may think better of her.............what do u think?.....M.
I respect her. She is the only one from a close group of friends who did not write books revealing all the fucking shit Freddie did. I respect her for respecting Freddie's privacy. Fred would paint over the fucking wall himself, if he could, all he wanted was some privacy.

Freddie obviously loved Mary thats definite, she
admitted that the prospect of taking over Garden Lodge after Freddies death filled her with terror.
She also said that rattling around the great house
without him, at first was daunting to say the least. In her words she said she felt very much out of her depth, some of the fans told her she was just the keeper of the house, and that hurt her. It was actually 8 years after Freddies death
before Mary received the bulk of his money, which was a very worrying time, as the taxman had been paid but without the money coming through she didnt know if she could afford to keep the house.
If she painted the walls, why shouldnt she, its her house now, and as Freddie trusted her implicitly while he was alive, I think he left her the house because he knew she would look after it as he would have wanted.
If Garden Lodge had had a hedge surrounding it instead of the wall then it wouldnt have been a bone of contention with the fans in the first place.

I agree with luthorn. Some people have written books about Freddie, I read an extract from one and there was an awful lot of stuff in it that I think was too personal. I think Freddie just wanted his privacy - if that was me I wouldn't like people writing about my private life.
Mary hasn't done that and I doubt she'd want to either - so leave her alone all the people who have been giving out about her. She deserves her privacy too and she really loved Freddie so give her some respect.

Look i agree with freesia, Freddier wouldnt have left so much to her if he didnt trust her, and no she would look after it all. Its up to her what she dose no one can tell her what to do, freddie would know that and undertands. And Jim well i dont know, i know hw was freddie bf and all and mary was freddies gf, and he loved both of them, but honestly i cant see what Jim as has against MAry. I knoe freddie would of wanted them to get along in prefect happyness. So why the hell arnt they?

I think a lot of people have enjoyed bashing Mary Austin for a long time simply because they're jealous of how close she was to Freddie. She was his friend/lover/whatever and it was his business what he left to her and her business what she did with it.
