Freddie/Robert Plant

Who here thinks that Robert Plant sounded a little bit like Freddie? My mom said she thinks that Robert sounds like Freddie in The Battle Of Evermore.

hmmm...i can see what you mean in battle of evermore if you are really thinking about Fred at the time. when he does the "low" parts they sound similar at times...actually, i really see what you are talking about. im listening to Dazed and Confused at the moment...especially when he sings "soul of a woman was created below" how he sings that is like how Fred sings stuff like that...it is hard to explain, but its there and they have a similar style. good question!

No one sounds like Freddie, no one can try act like Freddie, no one was as GREAT as Freddie, so no i dont think he sounded like Freddie.

Too bad they never did a duet. Could've called it 'The Battle Of Nevermore' LOL

I don't think the voices really sound the same...

For a guy who really does bear a very close resemblance to Freddie's '86 live voice: I went to see 'Gary Mullen's Night of Queen' here in Holland last week. This guy gave me the shivers, very good show and voice! I think that's the closest anyone will get to Fred's voice..

sorry, the battle for evermore was recordes in 1971 for led zeppelin (iv), Freddie sounds more like Robert to me in the early recordings of Queen, i know he's voice is unique and blabla bla, but we have to admit that theres some influence by mr plant on freddie

just listen "the lemon song" speaking part when robert says "d'you hear what I'm talking about?"
it definitely sounds like freddie.
however to me freddie's voice sounds sometimes like a mix between hendrix and plant

I never really thought they were very similar, but when one considers how many recordings both vocalists have done over there years, there's bound to be an occasional sound bite that makes one say "that sounded like so-and-so". I always thought Freddie had had prurist, most unique voice in rock, even in the mid-seventies when I first heard him, but Percy (Robert Plant) has always been my favorite singer. I was surprised to find out he and Freddie were friendly-they seem so different. But I know Freddie loved Zeppelin and Robert seemed to not only appreciate Freddies voice, but commented at the tribute concert that "he was a really, really sweet guy".

Again!!, the lemon song was recorded in 1969!!!

I think in a lot of instances, they use their voice the same and with similar emotion, but I think they sound nothing alike in terms of voice.

I love both Led Zeppelin very much and see overall similarities to Queen, but in one way they seem total opposites. Queen's music has a very tightly structured, perfected quality to it, while Zeppelin always seemed real loose like the song could fall apart at any moment. Zeppelin is the only band like this I know where the vocals, drums and guitar feel like they are grandstanding apart from the song, but are actually pulling the song off with a dizzy kind of feel to it. It's hard to explain, but basically they seem like the type of band that could take a mistake or odd note change, and somehow not only make it fit, but create something very interesting. The only other example of this I can think of is Hendrix.

no no no.. firstly Freddie was using his voice with a much more expterted technique...Robert has a voice with a great style but not a good one according to classic-natural vocal talent..

Robert ruined his voice while he tries to hit some high notes with a very wrong tech. but his style was very suitable with Zeppelin's music..
and in some ways,you may say that their voices sound similar..But it's impossible to say completely ..because robert hasn't got even half of freddie's voice versatility and tech...

Zeppelin would have been a better band with a better vocalist - he could deliver in the studio where there was plenty of opportnity to be able to always do another take.

However, live, Plant is hopeless. The How The West Was Won CD set is destroyed by Plant being on there - I'd love to hear that set with the vocal track removed completely.........

Freddie and Roger Daltrey were the only two vocalists that were as good or better on stage as they were in the studio.

No way Fred was better on stage than in the studio. On stage he hardly ever hit the C of Champions, in the studio he did that wonderful Love Of My Life and Show Must Go On things.

yep..freddie was not that high on stage..he changed his singin' notes to make them stronger well..and because of the hardness of hittin' this high notes and dancin' together..

and don't forget he suffered by nodules in whole of his career..
