Not saying anything about their creative integrity:
TOP 3
1. The Game (success-wise, it reached both No. 1 in the US and UK)
2. A Night At The Opera (Queen's first UK No. 1, and their first Top Ten in the US)
3. A Day At The Races (second UK No. 1 and another Top Ten in the US)
FLOP 3
1. Hot Space (first album in many years not to reach Top Three in the UK, and didn't even make the Top Twenty in the US. Flash Gordon would be here instead, but it's a soundtrack album and I won't count that)
2. Queen II (poor reviews and poor chart positions)
3. Queen (didn't chart in the US until 1975, as far as I know, and only then reached No. 83)
If we're talking in terms of creativity:
TOP 3
1. Queen II (the band really went to town here, experimenting with stereo and all sorts of studio trickery)
2. A Day At The Races and A Night At The Opera (should really be counted as two, as they're both logical extensions of each other)
3. Innuendo (after several middling albums in the mid-80s, the band return to their classic sound and deliver one for the books)
FLOP 3
1. The Miracle
2. A Kind Of Magic
3. The Works
Those three are interchangeable, as they both rely too heavily on synths, are too short (just under forty minutes for the last two), and don't try anything new. Hot Space isn't a flop in terms of creativity, as it's the last album Queen experimented with for many years; it may not have been what the fans wanted, but they were still trying new things they felt passionate about.

Top 3 :-
- 'Queen II'
- What can I say about this masterpiece that has not been said already? Absolute genius!!! Incredible creativity and imagination and for me, the best album of all time!!!
- 'Innuendo'
- Amazing, powerful, poignant and emotional. It also includes my favourite and what I feel is the best song of all time, 'The Show Must Go On'.
- 'Sheer Heart Attack'
- This third spot can change from time to time but more often than not, 'Sheer Heart Attack' takes this spot, purely because I personally don't think there is a weak spot on the album. Excellent variation of songs and brilliant throughout!!!
Bottom 3 :-
- 'Flash Gordon'
- Theoretically a soundtrack I know but I find it hard to pick a 'worst' Queen album. Besides, 'Flash' is a decent tune and 'The Hero' in my opinion is excellent, especially the ending to the song.
- 'Hot Space'
- But not half as bad as some people make out. Queen deserve top praise for trying to be inventive and trying something new. If the music/songs were performed more rockier with less synths, then this album would have been a corker. Just think of the live versions of the songs from this album. Also, there are actually some decent tunes on this album.
- 'A Kind Of Magic'
- In my opinion, a very good album but below par for a Queen album. Some great moments, 'One Vision, 'A Kind Of Magic', 'Who Wants To Live Forever' and some decent songs to boot but definitely towards the bottom of the league in the Queen stakes!

Personally I think Queen never made a bad album. Not even 'Hot Space'.
The 80s albums are commonly bashed for having refills, but some forget that the 70s album had refills as well.
I mean, even The Beatles had refills.

Top 3
1)Sheer Heart Attack- Some of Queen's best rockers-FLick Of The Wrist, Now I'm Here, Stone Cold Crazy etc, beautiful ballads- Dear Friends, Lily Of The Valley and great Mercury songs- Killer Queen, Lap Of The Gods. It is diverse and challenging.
2)Innuendo- A real return to their eccentric roots. Some really heavy numbers- Headlong, I Can't Live With you, The Hitman. Of course Days Of Our lives, Innuendo, Show Must Go On and Don't Try So Hard are breathtaking. Great vocals by Freddie and for the first time in a while no disco.
3)Jazz- A surprise maybe but it's a great-sounding album. I love Mustapha because it's mad, Dead On Time and Let Me Entertain You are good rockers and Dreamer's Ball is a great jazz song too. The highlight for me is Jealousy with that beautiful sitar. (is it genuine or is it guitar orchestration?)
Worst 3
1)Hot Space- Las Parablas De Amor, Put Out The Fire and Dancer are good but the rest is poor. I much prefer the Magic tour version of Under Pressure.
2)A Kind Of Magic- When you hear The Miracle or particularly Innuendo, you realise just how weak some of the band's eighties catalogue was. One Vision, Princes and Who Wants To Live Forever are superb but Pain/Pleasure and Don't Lose Your head are appalling. The rest is middling, though Gimme The Prize is good.
3)The Game- I know it was successful but it was a move in a bad CREATIVE direction. Play The Game is great with those stacked harmonies and guitar breaks, Dragon Attack and Save Me are also very good but Rock It is terrible, dated nonsense, Don't Try Suicide and Coming Soon are also poor. There is no out-and out rock here.

The quality of a Queen LP stands or falls on the songwriting.
TOP
1. Sheer Heart Attack - my favourite LP of all time. In 30 years nothing has surpassed it. Killer Queen is their best single ever. The whole LP is so well produced and engineered and played and not a bad song on it. How many LPs can you say that about. And they look great on the cover! Their peak and the peak of the 70s!
2. A Night At The Opera - 2nd fav LP of all time.
3. Cant decide between Queen II or A Day At The Races
Flop
The Miracle - awful 80s production.
Hot Space - sounds like they were desperate for more US sales and did what they thought would sell at the time. Dated.
Jazz - the first real dip in quality.

QUOTE: The quality of a Queen LP stands or falls on the songwriting.
If that's the case, then I don't understand why you put JAZZ on the Flops list. DSMN is my (and many others') favourite of all times, and there are lots of intelligent, varied and remarkable songs on it: Mustapha is so energetic, FBG is a straight rocker with funny lyrics, IOSD, DB and Jealousy are lightweight, but well-made singalong songs. Okay, there are better Taylor compositions, but there are only two of them. How can one think of the uninspired Miracle or Magic and partly Works productions as representing the better songwriting?

Innuendo (great album, though this spot can be taken by about ten other Queen albums - Jazz, Queen II, The Works, etc).

Hot Space (i don't think it is really bad, and i appreciate the fact that they were not afraid to explore new territories, and although it contains couple of great tracks - it's obviously not queen at their best...)
