Your opinion about Houston 1977

Fucking brilliant!

I saw this tour a week later in Long Beach, CA, but I was a little kid and and there's no way I could've appreciate it like I do now.

Wow!
This is also the first 70's Queen concert I've seen on film.

It emphasizes another thing that Queen were, and that's a fantastic live band that put a lot of effort into making it a great show and it shows!..lol
Every tune is a highlight so far!
Freddie is fantastic, No one could ever touch Freddie as far as THE lead singer of Queen.

John is awesome as well.


And as an aside, it's funny cos this makes what I saw in Hollywood last Saturday even more special.

Q+PR never set out to best the legendary band on this video. They couldn't really.
They just paid the ultimate compliment to Queen by making the material live again without mocking what they were. A very difficult thing to pull off in light of the cicumstances.

Recently I've been getting into it.
The more I see it, surer I am that this is awesome especially Freddie...

After watching the concert all the way through i have come to this conclusion it's very good it's the first NOTW tour i've seen and heard and it's sounds great.

Nice extension to the medley "get down make love" is just fabulous in my opinion Brian's harmonizing effects sound stunning and unique,bit of a dodgy gig for him guitar wise sound problems and all, but the band very much in control obviously giving 100% to the cause all 4 on good form.

Guitar solo i found different and unique in delivery especially with the rock n roll type solo i ilke the solo's so this one was great to hear.

Roger taylor had a great night didn't put a foot wrong and john deacon what can i say does he make a mistake that man?, it's just great to finally see what was becoming the elusive concert we would never see.

Great show. Great vocals from Freddie, though my favorite versions of Somebody To Love remaind the ones from the Live Killers through 82 period when he really pushed the high notes.

I don't understand the bittorrent thing, but I did just buy this off of eBay. This is the first time I saw Freddie put ON clothes rather than take them off. (Black Harlequin leotard, then black belt and black leather jacket added.) Melancholy Blues - silky, beautiful. I'm In Love With My Car - the piano in it is stunning. I had only heard that song mostly with drums and guitars. Stone Cold Crazy - geez, always dynamite. I had seen photos of Freddie in his shiny silver leotard, but not video. Wow! And Jailhouse Rock at the end of the show - who would have thunk it - it is most certainly a revved up version compared to the sedate renditions in later concerts.

I think Houston is far superior than any of the 80s concerts or Earl's Court. The concert is a reminder of what a great rock band Queen were in the 70s. Earl's Court would be a good show if the camera man actually shot what he was suppose to. It's a great setlist but some of the worst camera angles I have ever seen.

I love H77! Brian may have had some weeker moments, but overall the band was outstanding! Great setlist as well, without all the annoying songs you get in an eighties-show. Hammy75 is great, but short. Earls Court is very good as well (Brian´s outstanding) but loses on performance and setlist compared to Houston. Can´t wait for the Paris-release though. Hope that´s not just a rumour...

Downloaded awhile ago and finally burned on a DVD. AMAZING! I love how you can hear each member of the band clearly with no crowd noise masking anything. John is particularly amazing in this show! Love the many piano sequences with Freddie. Liar, White Man, Death on Two Legs, wow. Five stars. Two thumbs up.

it's definitely a better performance than earls court. i wonder if they recorded houston to multitrack? i think earls court is more likely to see a dvd release though, because theyve recently remixed the audio track and the image quality is better than houston. it would be great if they released both together, but with qp, thats unlikely i think.

I was wondering that, too. If there is no multitrack recording of Houston, the show won't ever be released maybe other than including some snippets as bonus etc. Earls Court was definately multitracked as it was planned to be released.

it would be sad if it wasn't released due to there being no multitrack though. there's nothing stopping them releasing earls court, and then having the houston show on a bonus disc - the whole thing. but something tells me queen productions wouldn't be up for that, for whatever reason.

Hi folks, im long time reader and first time poster. I just wanted to share my opinion of the famed Houston 77 show. Like many others i waited a long time to get my hands on a copy. I thought the energy from the band was absolutley fantastic... although it was definatley an 'off night' for Brian. he seemed to be having some problems with his guitar set-up, be it tuning or what-not. it definatley threw him off his game. I cant say the rest of the band were faultless either, listen carefully and youll hear a few bum notes coming from Mr Deacons corner. I think its unfair to blame the cameramen for what we see, they were just doing their job, the director calls the shots for whats ultimatley presented to us... and for all we know the show was never edited properly in post production, so what we are seeing is a very very rough cut that somehow got leaked to us... same goes for Earls Court 77.

I agree with your assessment there... too bad it's going go fly over most heads here, like most attempts of intellectual discussion. It's easier to blame someone than find a logical reason! Welcome to the forum, nonetheless!

If you reread my post I wasn't referring to the camera shots of Houston but Earl's Court. EC is a great concert but some of the swift camera swings and dodgy angles don't help the video. I am sure if they re-edited it for a DVD release they would fix some of the post production problems. I have no probelms with the way Houston was shot.

A logical reason???? So it's a logical reason that the camera shots are shaky throughout the concert and swing from what part of the stage to the next? Oh yeah there is a logical reason for it! Let's blame post production for everything! It must have went striaght over my head ;-)
