I 've only seen the old version of it, but it's still pretty good.

But, I was in the Jesus Christ Superstar play at my old school in the seventh grade! I was the highpriest, Annis (sp?).

Ooh, Annas is awesome. The priests are the best part, IMO, besides Judas of course.

I saw it in London about 6 years ago, funnily enough in the same theatre a certain rock musical has been at for nearly the last 4 years.

And I would have loved to see the version with Rick Mayall as Herod (I think)

FABULOUS movie, the original cast recording was great too.

I LOVE Ted Neely, Carl Anderson and Yvonne Ellimon in the film, plus the film had 2 additional songs in it that Rice and Weber wrote just for the film.

the spanish version JESUCRISTO SUPERSTAR with Camilo Sesto at lead vocals is also great.

Sadly, Carl Anderson DIED just this past year, 2004, I THINK of Lieukemia. I adored him. So talented.

He and Ted Neely were thought to be so synonymous with and loved in the film version, that they have been touring LIVE shows of JCS all over the USA for over a decade.

Ted Neely is a TEXAN!!!! Damn, have you heard the NOTES he hits with his voice and his range in the song ''Garden Of Gethsemane! Christ On A Bike (pun intended!)

And the film version of the TITLE song, with Carl Anderson and all the 70's sexy stage dancers with their glitter outfits and Anderson's white fringed jumpsuit (aka Freddie Mercury!) when he outstretches his arms to the chorus...Jesus Christ Superstar, Do You think You're Who They Say You Are'', FABULOUS!!!!!

Also, Yvonne Ellimon was in the London and Broadway cast as wll as MOVIE and I LOVE her version of ''I Don't Know How To Love Him''.

''Could We Try Again Please'' was specifically written by Andrew Lloyd Weber and Tim Rice just for the movie.

Murray Head sang the title song just ok (IMO) on the original recording, but Carl Anderson stopped the MOVIE/SHOW with HIS version!!!!

He will be sadly missed. RIP Carl Anderson :(

What are YOU talking about? IMO, Ian Gillan was and will always be THE BEST JESUS ever in JCS.

Also, I personally did not like the 1973 movie. It just... was bad, in my opinion. Didn't like Neeley's performance in the movie (can't make an opinion of him otherwise, only saw him in the movie.) Dennen & Elliman weren't nearly as good in the movie as they were on record, the fact that they shot on location took out a lot of symbolism they could have used as well. I just don't think it was up to snuff, especially considering the excellent source material.

However, there was a new movie in 2000 (TV movie I believe, though I have a DVD copy of it) that was quite good. It wasn't as good as the concept album (which reigns supreme in my opinion), but it was good. It was an updated version. The Judas was really good (Jerome Pradon, a French fellow, looks nice in leather as well), Jesus was pretty good but was no Gillan (WHY do they keep having people who sing Jesus so HIGH? I prefered Gillan's sort of low voice, and the man could scream).

I think that "Jason and the Amazing Techincolor Dreamcoat" is better.

What does this have to do with his abilities? The man's amazing. He was THE BEST JESUS in JCS EVER.... He created the part perfectly and set the bar.
