WWRY Las Vegas to close

It is closing at the end of November.

Producers of the hit rock musical “We Will Rock You” announced today that they will be closing the blockbuster production at the end of November, after 520 performances. As the musical heads into its last 4 weeks at Paris Las Vegas, it will have welcomed just under 500,000 people through its doors. To date every single performance has ended with a standing ovation. The producers, Tribeca Theatrical Productions, Queen guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor and Phil McIntyre Entertainment in association with Paris Las Vegas, do not anticipate that record ending when the final curtain comes down.

Following an engagement of more than a year at Paris Las Vegas, new productions of the hit spectacular, will open in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban, South Africa and Zurich, Switzerland, in early 2006. The final performance of the Las Vegas rock powerhouse show will be Sunday, November 27th.

“Paris Las Vegas is pleased it brought ‘We Will Rock You.’ to Las Vegas,” said Michael Weaver, V.P. of Marketing Paris Las Vegas.

“We Will Rock You” is a lavish rock theatrical production featuring 20 of Queen's greatest hits, including “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “We Are The Champions,” “Another One Bites The Dust” and “Crazy Little Thing Called Love.” Since opening in September 2004, Queen band members Brian May and Roger Taylor have been to see the Las Vegas production several times, noting the frenzy of the audiences with each visit.

“We Will Rock You” continues to play to sold-out houses at London's Dominion Theater -- where it has been running since May 2002, and recently celebrated the distinction of becoming the longest-running musical ever to play at the Dominion, one of the West End's largest theaters. In addition to an ongoing Spanish-language touring production in Spain, WWRY also continues to break box office records in Germany, where it is the number one grossing musical of all time.

Globally, the show has now been seen by more than 5 million people.

Ticket prices for remaining performances at Paris Las Vegas are $80.50, $97.00, and $124.50 inclusive of tax and handling. Tickets are available at the Paris Box Office or by calling (702) 946-4567 or (877) ROCK SHOW.

The show schedule is as follows:
Monday 8:30 p.m.
Tuesday 8:30 p.m.
Wednesday 8:30 p.m.
Thursday DARK
Friday 8:30 p.m.
Saturday 7 p.m. & 10 p.m.
Sunday 7 p.m. & 10 p.m.

I could probably fly to London to see it cheaper than flying to Vegas anyway...

I can't believe how much the tickets cost. I would not pay that much.

You could actually get a ticket cheaper to see Quodgers. WTF is up with that??

It was a very entertaining show. Glad I got to see it.

The UK show was a pile of shit - wish I hadn't seen it.

I'm still waiting to read something from someone justifying all the hype. There are lots of people saying it's great, wonderful, excellent, but no explanations as to what it is that makes it so.....

A case of "it's Queen-related so it must be good"?

I read that Tribeca Productions had a ten year contract for the Las Vegas WWRY in some press releases last year when the show premiered here in the USA.

Why is it closing after only a little more than a year...and what about that contract?

Why did they reduce the run time of the Las Vegas production to a 90 minutes not too long ago? I'm guessing it will be attributed to "American audiences not 'getting it.' Whether that is accurate or not, I don't know. I saw it in London. The band was good.

The songs are great, the singers generally have great voices and are easy on the eye to boot, the band is terrific, the live visuals are impressive, its light-hearted and occasionally funny, and its basically a fun night of entertainment. I saw it with a large group in Las Vegas several months ago, and to a person, everyone raved about it and felt it was a highlight of the trip. Obviously not everybody feels that way, but its equally obvious that a lot of people really enjoyed it. I don't think its any more complicated than that. Its not Shakespeare, but its good light entertainment and it was fun to hear the Queen catalogue performed by a live band and live singers. I don't think liking it makes me a moron, nor do I think you not liking it makes you a moron. Just different tastes.

Yah, but somehow don't think we'll manage the $800 in airfare to Vegas before the end of the month..;-)
