About the Greatest Video Hits 2 DVD...

I was watching the Montreux Pop Festival from '84/'86 on the GVH2 dvd..and noticed that the music and Freddie's singing sounded more studio-like than live. This is probably some sort of misinterpretation, but could someone somehow explain this to me?

I mean, I know that Queen would never fake their concerts, but I just noticed some funny bits...I'm just naturally observant, it's quite a habit, and it's a pain in the arse sometimes...

He's lip-synching, you can totally tell, but who cares, he was Freddie. And I also remember Roger saying something about it somewhere. I think I read it in a magazine or something.

It was overdubbed with the studio versions of the songs after the fact because they felt the Queen sound was not up to par.

At the Montreux Golden Rose Pop festivals the bands wheren't allowed to play live. (However since '88 it WAS). Freddie didn't like that rule and as some kind of protest he didn't playback well, nor did he always held the microfone at his mouth.

Do none of you read the booklets anymore!?

It states very clearly in the Greatest Vids II booklet, that Freddie and the boys hated miming so they didnt take it too seriously, especially Freddie.

I really like those clips.

I get the impression that Freddie was having fun making it obvious to everyone that he was not singing live. Did not seem to worry the crowd they appear to be having a great time too.

I really enjoyed watching these on the DVD especially when Freddie gets the hoover out at the beginning of I Want To Break Free

The Montreaux "concerts" were just album promotions, if I remember correctly (someone please correct me if I'm wrong... someone like ThomasQuinn or John S or someone else who knows their stuff). The band knew they'd have to lip-synch and because they hated doing that, they'd (Freddie) purposely do a screw-up or Freddie would hold the mic away from his face.

Its all mimed.

Yeah, I was getting worried that people were claiming the things they were... Thankfully the real info made it out.

It was a promotional gig that they wanted to do, but were forced to mime. And like others say, Freddie took the piss by hardly caring to sing into the mic at the right times.
