Nice point Thijs. But sometimes it's better to be selfish than selfless xD.

Well, it's ALWAYS better for an individual to be selfish then selfless. That's sort of intrinsic to the definitions. It's just worse for society.

so true. you really won't be laughing then..

I'm sorry, but...did you just agree with yourself???

Anyway, technically every action one takes is selfish. However, the only way a suicide does not become the ultimate form of selfishness is if a) he truly does not know anyone else, or b) he sacrifices himself for someone else.

This was not the case, as it seems he did so over a girl. Refer to my first post; it seems that I was correct.

I knew this lad called Kevin Davidson, he got his jaw broke off one of our neighbourhood hard men. After that everyone turned against him for reporting this. I was the only one who would say hello to him if I saw him in the street. His windows were getting broken and other stuff on a constant basis. He moved in with his ex wife and her boyfriend, but he still really loved Wendy..he took his own life. The bastards that persecuted him are still walking around, I wont forget them for what they did to him.

Most suicides are commited by people not in a right frame of mind, please dont forget that.
That's so sad Barry. I'm sorry to hear of it. :( I know, people can be such bastards...that case was a perfect example of what I was saying. You don't know all the cases so please don't laugh at it. There was no way out for that guy...

:(

Suicide sucks
Your conjectures are just as good as ours. I like to laugh, so logically, hey! -Suicide- *Laughs* ^-^

If those people that got hit by a train were teenagers, they had enough knowledge to know what signs there are when a train is passing by...

So my guess is that they were have some sort of game to see who can stand the longest or something.. That's why my sympathy goes for the conductor, as he will have traumas of hitting those people. that the teenagers got killed is their own fault, how harsh this might sound.
They were not having games and playing in the tracks. That station is dangerous, there have been near misses in the past, and not involving teenagers playing around.

My whole school has been effected by their deaths, today wa sthe quitest I can ever remember the school.

One was a good friend of my brother, and he identifed a picture of them to a reporter.
Um, Whoooaaa!...?
I tried Suicide once, i tried to hang myself but the dam Rope snapped so...

Just remember that as you laugh at one's death, there are many more people directly influenced by someone's suicide.

While strictly speaking, suicide may be the ultimate form of selfishness, it still affects friends and family. How do parents of a 16 year old suicide victim react? Why must we laugh at someone's unfortunate death? When did this become funny and open for mocking?

A) Very sadly. But they are uninvolved in this discussion.
B) We don't have to laugh at someone's death, we choose to.
C) Everything is open for mocking. EVERYTHING. Anyway, one look at www.ytmnd.com shows that it's been funny and open for mocking for quite some time now.

It's like, sure, it sucks to have been the friends and family of Hitler, but it's not like Hitler jokes aren't fair game.

Poor example. Hitler cannot be compared to a teenage suicide; it's apples and oranges.

Besides, just because we can doesn't mean we should. Yes, everything can be mocked and, yes, we choose to laugh. But that doesn't mean we should. I can make fun of crippled kids, laugh at diabetics, and curse old ladies, but all that does is make me a jerk.

And finally, of course friends and family are part of the discussion. You may choose to ignore them, but the fact is they are linked to suicide. Ask any parent.

thats how emo (or people who think they are emo) think, and its a pretty lame attempt to make people feel sorry for them.....so hence no sympathy for the guy

I was moreso leaning toward things that the subject of humor directly and knowingly caused.

Most of these "emo" kids are from upper-middle-class families. They want of nothing. They break up with their girlfriends, and since they lived such sheltered lives they resort to self mutilation, eating disorders, and such as coping mechanisms. It just proves how truly weak they are.

I think it's because of that crap "emo" music out there, which my youngest sister has taken a "liking" to, unfortunately.

I feel bad for her, cos she gets called an "emo kid" at school, and some have even thrown "Tickle-Me-Emo" jokes at her (which I kinda found a bit funny on the pun part, but did not like the fact that it was being used towards her). Seems to me that there aren't as many "emo" kids around as I thought initially.

I've never talked about this up until now to anyone outside of my family, but her attitude's changed a LOT ever since she started listening to Evanescence (csp?). She gets very moody, argumentive, and seems to believe that she's "doing nothing but ruining your (by that, I mean our family's) lives" when in truth, she's not.

Although I do have to say that she takes after some of the "qualities" that I had as a younger teenager when I was her (current) age, and I don't mean the nice ones necessarily. So it's hard to tell what's coming from normal "teen angst", and what's coming from this "emo" shit that we have to put up with, in terms of her outlook and attitude.

I personally think "emo" music should be banned. It offers nothing good, especially in terms of feelings and lyrics.

ED: PS. Music Man is right about "emo" kids coming from upper-middle-class families. We are definitely not an exception, my family, as we are very much well off.
Well, nowadays banning "emo" music would be like banning all music. Everything and anything is categorized as emo, and it's really hard to tell what's destructive and what isn't.

That aside, that music is not so much destructive as it is so that it gives young, impressionable children the idea that such acts as self-mutilation and depression are "cool." And the "more different, yet conforming to emo styles" you are, the more "cool" you are, as well.

It does this in a very subtle way. Music artists complain about such issues as a struggle, and something which they regret. Sort of like a lot of drug-oriented music. They are not saying it's good, but by saying it's not good, they are inadvertently making it "cool."

I'm thinking as I go, but this, psychologically, is how I perceive it.

Now, don't get me wrong; I think a ban on this music is a silly idea. However, these are the facts, and that's all I'm presenting you. These kids worship their idols just like we all do. Don't tell me you have never tried to be just like your idol, whether it be Freddie, Brian, Roger, John (hehe), or some other famous (or not) person. Thus, being depressed, making decisions you regret, etc. becomes "cool."

I don't really know where I'm going right now, but that's just how things work in this magical world known as the human mind.

First of all, NO kind of music should ever be banned. That's rediculous.

Secondly, although I feel sorry for this guy's family, its hard to be sympathetic for him. Someone said something about "conspiciuos suicides" earlier in the thread and I agree with that statement. Suicide is selfish but conspicious suicide is narcissism at its worst. I mean, come on, making a suicide post on Myspace.com?? That's not asking for help, but rather, wanting to make the whole world mourn your death. No tears shed from my eye....
