I'm trying to track down this one book we mentioned in my British Literature class last spring. I can't seem to find it in the text, but I know we brought it up.

Anyhow, it's about this guy who marries this beautiful and exotic woman. Her family is glad to rid of her. The guy finds out that the reason they were so happy to see her go is she is doomed to turn mad, so she does. He hides her away in an attic and marries this normal girl.

I had reason to believe the author was Austen or Bronte, but I didn't see anything on Amazon or Barnes and Noble that seemed to identify with this.

If anyone could identify this book, that'd be wonderful. Thanks!

Pride & Prejudice?
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

Mr Rochester hides his crazy wife in the attic and, after she dies, marries Jane.
