Final Draw for the 2006 FIFA World Cup tonight

Tonight the groups for the 2006 tournament will be drawn in a huge event in Leipzig with alleged 500 million people watching world wide. 32 teams will play the first round in 8 groups and tonight we will learn which teams will play against each other in the first round. What a hype. It would have been enough to draw the teams in a 10 minute ceremony somewhere in a FIFA office:)

For Germany, the worst case would be to play in the same group as Holland. Why? Because for some reason I do not know it's okay to lose against anybody but the Dutch.

You know there's going to be group of death.

Last time it was England, Argentina, Nigeria, and Sweden.

I hope Italy get a hard group, because whenever they get an easy group they always take the matches too casually and end up getting put out.

How are Mexico within the top seeds?
I thought that was a bit strange.....

Lucky Germans have Poland, Ecuador and Costa Rica. There won't be any excuses if they fail.

Argentina, Ivory coast, Serbia and The Netherlands... oh my god :S

Toughest groups

- Italy, Czech Republic, Ghana, United States
- Argentina, Holland, Cote de Ivore, Serbia

Yeah and i think Portugal are gonna walk all over Group D....

That was the exact same thing they said 4 years ago, which was also the same thing they said about France.

Every World Cup becomes more unpredictable than the previous one.

Yeah you're right, but logically speaking, Portugal are extremley likely to win from that group.

But talking about the World Cup in general, Japan/Korea 2002 and Euro 2004 didn't have any unstoppable teams, they had favourites but there wasn't a team who was unbeatable. This is why i think Germany 2006 differs, as i don't think anyone is capable of beating Brazil.

Italy and Czech Republic should progress from Group E, but it's a tough looking group (aside from Ghana).

I think Italy will learn from their mistakes from the past few competitions....they always under estimate their opponents, but i think that will change.

LOL! Great Andy! I agree. Italian football players can be so haughty. They believe they're the best in the world and they'll end up losing against teams with less experience but far greater motivation and enthusiasm...
But....forza azzurri just the same! :-)

I'm delighted with our drawer. I sat next to the brother of someone who plays for Trinidad and Tobago during Business Studies class, so to see him playing against England will be cool, as long as we stuff them.

Germans and the Spanish have it nice and easy. Roll on the 2nd round.
