Before Queen were famous, how did they record they're music? An 8-track? Please and thank you!
I'm not sure to understand your question... but I'll try to answer with what I know. I know that Queen recorded their first album in Trident studios before they even got a deal with EMI. They had to pay the location of the studio themselves, and they had to record late at night because so they could pay less for the location. It was later that EMI, which turned them down before, finally signed the band
yes it was plain to see, yes it was meant to be...
That sort of helps, let me refrase my question. Did Queen/Smile record they're music to use as demos and if so, what did they use (an 8 track)? Does that help?
I was sure that Queen's De Lane Lea stuff was done for free as they were asked to test the studio and get demos in return for their time.

Don't know what the obsession with an 8-track is to you. If you mean an 8-track multi-track, then, probably. Heck, they may have even had a 16-track on offer. Someone on here probably knows for sure - Sebastian?

Peace,
Adam.
Very early stuff - on home mono reel-to-reel recorders. No overdubbing.

Smile - Mercury Studios. (I believe 8 track)
Queen - De Lane Lea (State of the art 1970's - whatever that may be).
"Listen to them. Children of the night. What music they make."
I think De Lane Lea was 16 track.
So there you have it!

I hope your life now feels fulfilled and overflowing with meaning.
