technical- NTSC / PAL on the comp

Maybe it's a weird question but what the hell :)
I want to watch NTSC DVD in England- I know the TV would be problematic but what about computer screen? Do I need special softwere or is it going to play with no problems? (regions are not the problem!)

I'm using mplayer, hopefully it will work as well :) If not- will change the player- I guess eventually I'll get there!!!

BTW- does anybody know how to free the DVD drive from the limited changes of regions? It's so fucking annoying- what's the point of that crap?
