Most of the atrocities carried out through time have been done in the name of one religion or another.
A lot of atrocities have been carried as well by atheists in anti-religion crusades.
The best example are nations living under communist regimes.
I take your point, but it merely reinforces mine.

Whether enforcing one's religious beliefs, or reacting against them and suppressing them (communism to cite your example), organised religion has an awful lot to answer for down the years.

Now I'm no fan of John Lennon. But who could argue with this:-

Imagine there's no Heaven,
it isn't hard to do.
Nothing to live or die for,
and no religion to.

That's about as profound a 'pop' lyric as you'll ever hear.

The French revolution was a reaction to a hedonistic royal dynasty who thought they ordained by God and therefore could do what they liked. Much like the behaviour of King Charles, who also thought he was devine and whose behavior precipitated the English Civil War.

Catholic. I can't help it obviously, I was baptised at two months old so had no control over it. But to be honest if I had the choice I would be quite happy to just not be a part of any religion in particular. I'm not very religious at all, but I do believe in spirits.
I'm from the brotherhood of catholic surfers

The first thing I have to say is I am a christian and blessed to be one because I happen to know first hand that Jesus is real and he is the only way to heaven because he gave his life for us,He died on the cross for our sins so all of us as sinners could live, its a free gift,"thank you lord" I don't think God is a joking matter and think some of the people in this category needs to change there thinking.God loves us all the same, and we should show our love back by glorifing him in our bodys our soul and our mind,God bless you all,you will be in my prayers.
