the stones um and all those really old guyz ( buddy holly )
and ur rushing headlong out of control and u think ur so strong but there ain't no stoppin u and there is nothing u can do about it
It always has to be black or white, right? Since this is a Queen forum, we all agree that Queen rules and we're entitled to think whatever we want about other bands, like this other band's fans can think whatever they want about Queen. In the end, it's all about personal taste and/or point of view.

You can say that you like or don't like Queen or Kiss or U2 for many reasons, but it's better if you state this reasons. We could talk about musical viruosity, showmanship, catchiness of the tunes, originality, media exposure and/or scandals that keep the stars in the public eye and many other factors, in which many artists would rank differently in every person's particular list of favorites.

Let's think about musical virtuosity. I'd say Queen's early material would rank decently over there but there's plenty of other progressive groups that did it better.

Let's say showmanship. Queen, specially Freddie, were really aware of this potential and made the best out of it.

Catchiness? Queen had it... also Britney Spears' songs do.

I think it's all about the whole and what each person likes about their band. I like a very good show and many pop artist know how to do it. I also like the sweet sound of a nice electric guitar ringing in my ears.

I've seen Kiss live and they know how to put a great show. Spectacle-wise they give Queen a run for their money. On the other hand, I really liked Queen+PR's lighting on the 2005 tour and since I love the band to bits, I enjoyed more than the Kiss one. I've see Marilyn Manson live and he puts on a very theatrical and impressive show, very dramatic, with some clothes and stage changes. I just bought tickets for U2's show in Monterrey, in february and I'm really looking forward to seeing them, since I know they have a very good show. Ok, The Edge is no Brian May, but he also has a very distinctive sound.

I used to think U2 was very overrated but I began listening to their music a couple of years ago and I like some of it. They're a very versatile band and Bono is a good frontman (not a match for Freddie, though). They're still standing and in full fledged form, I have to give them the credit.

It seems like I used to think some bands were overrated when I actually didn't know their music. Right now, I could tell you that the Stones or Coldplay are overrated but, when I think about it, you can only be overrated through hype for a while, 5 years tops. After that, you must have SOMETHING in order to be remembered.

Think about it, bands like U2, Green Day or Oasis will be remembered for they contributions to the nineties and 2000's. There has to be some quality in there. Crappy "artists" fade away (remember Vanilla Ice, New kids on the block, the backstreet boys) and, eventually, talent will out, and it shall be remembered.

PS: Sorry for this pointless and extensive rant... feel free to ignore it or, better yet, discuss it, just to make a difference... :S
Fantastic post, Wiley. I have to say I agree with every word of it. Too bad it will be over the heads of 90% of the people who post here.

And how much have you done for the worldwide fights against poverty and AIDS? I have seen few people with such genuine empathy for those in the third world as Bono has, and because he is an international star, he has the ability to speak for millions of people in the first world who want there to be justice for all, and an end to poverty, starvation, and AIDS. While you're at it, why don't you criticize Brian May, Dave Stewart, and Bob Geldof for all they have done? How about Martin Luther King Jr, Desmond Tutu, Mahatma Ghandi, and Nelson Mandela? Do you even know who those four people are?

Wow, that is one of the most ignorant posts I've ever seen. The Rolling Stones are the only band to have survived the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and still be strong today. Buddy Holly's music was ahead of its time, and influenced many artists of the 60s, including the Beatles, who have said numerous times that he was one of their biggest influences. I really don't need to say more, do I?

Nothing to add to those previous posts from Sir GH and Wiley.
I also agree.

Except personally, i dont like bspears or boy bands. However, i did like 4 years ago have my phase of boybands and bubble gum pop, but who didnt in their earlier teen/preteen years??

But now i have seen the light, and have found good music. But again, it is all personal preference.

I dont care for hiphop either. But i dont mind Kanye West because hes got more things about life in his lyrics than most other rappers who rap about the Bitches and Ho's... And shootin people for money...

But if you like that stuff, then i cant say otherwise.

And DOWN WITH FREAKIN EMO MUSIC! Oye... They just play notes... its not really music as music was meant to be.
Classic Rock, now THAT was music my friends.
OK, my personal recommendation for Artist Or Band That I Would Like To Slap Upside The Head With Heavy Mining Equipment (*gasp*) is 50 Cent.

Now, before we get on the whole rap-vs-rock debate, allow me to say I can tolerate both equally. Some rock groups are garbage (I can't tell Sum 41 from Blink 182 from Good Charlotte from New Found Glory from etc. ad nauseum), and some rappers are equally so, but none more than this man.

His "tunes" seem to lack ANY melody whatsoever.
His slur is doing more injustice to the English language than George W. Bush has mustered.
HE HAS HIS OWN VIDEO GAME, FFS. Not something like The Eye, or that Wu Tang fighting game, but a Michael Jackson's Moonwalker ego trip.
And his monotone is grating after only limited exposure.

So, to recap: Bad backing music, bad voice, and no real reason to listen to him.
As someone on this board once said, someone should've shot him a few more times.
THAT, my friends, is why 50 Cent should be ground into a fine silt.

EDIT: Hey, IGN gave Q-Unit its Coolest Artist of the Year award! This means that not even 50 Cent can drag Queen down!

Wow, that's the most outrageous statement I've heard in a long time.....but its your opinion and I can respect that. Its a shame though because you don't know what you're missing.

You know, you sound just like my dad.
McFly are rubbish
Pussycat Dolls are a load of sluts who fancy themselves
Coldplay are boring
U2's songs sound the same
Westlife only cover songs. They can't write and they couldn't play a triangle
Green day are crap and I hate them
And Jennifer Lopez sucks. It's all about the ass not the songs. But they come from there anyway.
Britney Spears marries a loser then shows off about it
