Hi Queen dudes,
OK, I'm sure that a lot of you saw this interview:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4959787107106990601&q=Brian+May
In this interview, the poor Dutch dude is asking Brian May questions about "Bohemian Rhapsody". Brian May explains later how he wanted the questions to be about himself instead. And so he walks out of the interview!! Can you believe this? I mean, considering that he is not all that well known (he is not listed as one of 30,000 famous people on the www.biography.com website), Brian May should feel honored to have the chance to do an interview on television. Instead he acts really ugly.
Another thing that he did lately was an interview with the NY Times about "Bohemian Rhapsody" again. Of course, being the egomaniac that he is, I am sure that he jumped at the chance to be quoted in the New York Times. When asked whether "Bohmemian Rhapsody" is the best Queen song, do you know what his answer is? It was, "Well, who knows?". If "Bohemian Rhapsody" is not Queen's masterpiece, then why is he providing quotes about it for the NY Times? Brian May also does not like it when people talk about Freddie Mercury too much.
Most recently, Brian May received some kind of badge. As an American, I am not sure exactly what it was. My understanding is that even Patrick Stewart, as well as British actors on soaps have received this same badge and it is not the same thing as being knighted. Well, I happened to come across Brian May's website by chance and do you know what was on it? A HUGE blown up picture of this metal that he had received. As though everyone in the world wants to look at it so carefully! Dudes, Brian May's ego is so blown out of proportion these days that it is becoming comical!

"No, I wasn't grumpy. I was disappointed in the interviewer. We went straight into interviews from a long journey. The guy wasted his opportunity, and wasted my time. His brief was to talk about what was happening in the moment - a massive Queen tour, with Paul Rodgers, sold out, with wonderful reactions. Instead the interviewer started asking me why we didn't do the whole of "Bohemian Rhapsody" live. "Do you mean perform the operatic section?", I asked. "Well, yes", he said. "Because there are six of us, and 150 voices on the record - it would be ridiculous.. ", I said. "But with modern technology...?" he went on .... "No", I said, "not with modern technology. If you want to see Bohemian Rhapsody done completely live, go see our musical We Will Rock You". The interviewer seemed not to have heard of this. I started tell him we used Bo Rap as an opportunity for a special presentation involving Freddie. He seemed not to hear me. He then told me he wanted to show me a video of some students singing "Bohemian Rhapsody" live. I kinda squirmed .... why were we using up valuable time doing this, when we were running late anyway for the crucial sound-check which would enable us to play at our best that evening? I have seen plenty students singing Bo Rap, thanks. Maybe later ...? Well, he insisted, so I gave way. Then the video he wanted to show me didn't work. He said, "Give me a minute". I said, "This is crap - I would rather be spending the time preparing for the show, which is the real reason we are here." Or something like that. At this point I actually got up to leave, but thought...."No. I am not a prima donna, I should give the guy another chance" ... so I sat down again and said, "OK, let's start again. we have probably 3 minutes left - ask me something decent!" The interview consulted his notes, and said, "Bohemian Rhapsody was released in 1976 in Holland. When was it released in England?" Those of you who know their Queen history know this is any case wrong. But really who cares? And if they did, why couldn't the interviewer find this out for himself, instead of using up supposed interview time about the tour with this nonsense?
Well, at this point, I lost it. I think I said .. "Sorry, this is truly a waste of time". And I left to do soundcheck and clean myself up ready for the show. It was a choice from that point on, time being short .... bad hair or bad fingers ! I opted for bad hair of course - hair washing just before playing gives soft fingers - a potential disaster. I was happy in the end.... it turned out to be the best show so far ..... one of those nights which truly justifies to me my lack of home life ...my physical battle to regain match-fitness... the whole thing ...even the interviews!! ha ha! It was a joy."

Glad to see someone pays attention to me :)
But brian's egomaniac tendencies were apparent on the ANATO dvd where he talks about his own songs but not Fred's. Now one reason may be that they all owrked quite sepately on songs and therefore he did not know an awful lot about what went through Freddie's mind but it does strike me a sbeing a bit strange. That said though, he was the one who pushed for In The Lap of The Gods (a Mercury composition) to be included in the Magic tour setlist so his egomaniac character may just be a perception. I think Brian is a man of contradictions,a very complex type.
get a life, bitch

GOD SAVE BRIAN
bitch4freddie,
How would you like a date to the Queen+PR concert in Milwaukee? Then we can tell Brian how he is such an asshole, even though he is signing our autographs. Then you can tell them how you think it should be Smile+PR. And last, we can tell PR to stop invading everything we hold dearly. I mean, pretty soon, it'll be NaCl+PR. Better not get too thirsty because there will be a high price on H2O+PR. Oh SHIT! Id better not waste my daily allotment of O2+PR!

It kind of sounds like this interviewer was not very well prepared or informed...just clueless in general, still Brian gave him a chance to get it right. Brian was probably a little nervous/excited about the performance and also was pressed for time. To him that time was precious in order to prepare for the show. It also seems that maybe Brian was 'put off' by the guy's demeanor in general. I don't think he's an egomaniac.
This is my first post on these boards and accidently used the 'new topic' the first time I tried to respond and wonked it up!! Sorry guys I'll do better next time!!
