Question about Too Much Love Will Kill You....

The whole song was recorded between April-November 1988. It was meant to be included in the INVISIBLE MEN album (working title for THE MIRACLE) after I Want It All. The original version has most vocals a little out of tempo when compared to the version released in MADE IN HEAVEN. Also the guitar solo is a little bit different.

i dont feel Freddie is off beat at all on the MIH version.This song was a perfect to be a single if it were included on the Miracle for america.Sounds like the Queen music americans loved from the go.also the Freddie version is much better then the Brian vocal for obvious reasons.

Maybe its just in my mind, but since brian's version was first, this "delay" in that phrase is so common to me ...when i hear the Queen version it goes like this "too much love will kill you , .. in the end

Am i the only one who hears this difference in timing? Maybe because I am a musician myself, I possibly tend to hear this easier?!

Technically, I think Freddie's was recorded before Brians.

If the Brian and Freddie version would be identical, then that would suck.

I'm glad there is some difference, I like both versions, although Brian has a better voice for it.

Freddie's not 'off-beat' - from memory, the vocal's from Miracel session demo - it's a little flat in places - perhaps a guide vocal originally

Surely if the words "poignant", "powerful", "emotional" are to be used with reference to a musical recording, then this is it.

This is the song I use when I want to do a "here, wanna hear an excellent vocal, try this" on Queen non-believers.

So those picking out "off beats" and indeed criticising this as not being powerful enough....check your pulse - you may already be dead....

Normally I'm the first to defend the right of free speech on the internet, but I fear my tolerance is starting to wane.....

Indeed, Freddie's vocals are much better than Brian's technically spoken, but there is one thing that is different when I compare Freddie's vocals to Brian's vocals:
When I hear Brian singing 'Too much love will kil you', I believe him... when I hear Freddie singing the same lines, I don't.

I'm all for people having their own opinions, so that's cool if you don't like it. It just surprises me cause I feel this to be one of Queen's best songs, both versions, but Freddie's in particular. Very emotional, great lyrics, instumentally phenomenal, etc. I would be less surprised if this was a thread about Body Language (not that I don't like that), but we are all different.

I prefer Brian's version as well. It's more 'from the heart' than Freddies, although Fred's the better singer.

When I said off-beat I meant musically. Out of tempo. I corrected my post.

I think Too Much Love Will Kill You is the kind of song that The Miracle needed- there were no real ballads on that album and becaus eof that it's- rather unjustly in my view-seen as a bit lightweight. I'm not sure if Brian had Fred in mind when he wrote this because I don't think that Fred's illness dictated the sessions in that way that it did for Innuendo. Ok you can argue about The Miracle and Was It All Worth It but Queen were a band often in touch with their past (just look at the Ga Ga video)and songs like Is This The World We Created and White man were quite morally aware. I think it may have been to do with problems in his own life though I don't deny thare may have been some influence from fred.
