Obviously Brian May, I like Hendrix and Slash too. But people like Matt Bellamy are absolute class, and Justin and Dan Hawkins aren't too bad either. As much as I like Zeppelin, I'm not a huge fan of Page, but he's alright - I often find I don't think he plays for the song enough and it gets a bit old (but thats my opinion).
I notice some people have said Dave Grohl and Kurt Cobain. For two people who aren't known to be the most technical guitarists, they both write very good tunes with great melodies. After seeing the Foo's live recently, I have every confidence now in Dave Grohl as a guitar player. He's improved so much.
EDIT: I forgot about Tom Morello, Wes Borland, Jack White and Josh Homme. Whoops.

9.Rhandy Rhodes-What can isay? not much.What a musican and he`was a great guitarist.
10.Slash-Weird he didnt make it higher up on my list.But anyway,his great tone is blessing for both Guns N Roses and he`s new band Velvet Revolver.

I've been to that website sooooooo many times! You can spend a day researching the top ten musicians in any category on wikipedia. Of all the lists I've seen, the digitaldreamdoor guy is the best one. He's very well-informed, to say the least!

While Hendrix is a pioneer of the modern electric guitar, he's definitely over-rated from a technical sense. He is by no means the greatest guitarist ever, as so many of these "lists" say. Hundreds of rock players have exceeded him in many ways since 1970, but his influence is obviously undeniable.

I have always held that this is the definitive "Greatest Guitarist" list, the best ever made. It lacks here and there, but when you compare it to all the other crap out there, it makes this one look like gold. Many of the other lists range from slightly off to dead off, but at least they got the "Greatest Male Vocalist" list right.
I do hope that someday they make a technical proficiency list, as many people are always arguing it, but nobody has ever taken the time to compile all the ideas presented over the years.
