Montreux Pop Festival questions

I'm wondering why the band wasnt allowed to play live and why they had to lip sync? Were the microphones plugged in? And also i'm wondering why Freddie is wearing a diaper? (1984)

I know Freddie's mic was plugged in (at least) in the '86 one because after the first mimed song he does a 'day-oh' with the audience.

Maybe because Jim Beach could not get some money out of it. So... No money, no play..

If I recall, the no-miming thing was actually a policy of the people who ran that Montreaux thing in the first place. To me, it doesn't seem like Queen would insist on showing up to some festival with the express purpose of miming. To me, it seems more likely that they'd merely do the thing for publicity, and put up with the ridiculous no-miming clause anyway.

everyone mimed on the montreux festival. i suupose it was just easier than having to change the gear after each band played. although the cross played live on it in 1988 but then i seem to recall that the cross had a no miming rule
