Brian May of Queen and Andrew Farriss of INXS describe very different routes to revival. And on the question of how to replace a lead singer, the two musicians are miles apart.
"I would never do it in public," says guitarist May. "I would really find it degrading to do it in public."
May, 58, calls the concept "exploitation." As he imagines such an audition playing out, there's himself, "relaxed," sitting in judgment on an aspiring singer "in a difficult situation" for the amusement of a television audience. Shown publicly, the imbalance of power between famous band and eager unknown strikes May as abusive, and loaded with potential humiliation for the losers.
"But that seems to be what it's about," May says, taking a swipe at reality TV in general.

On the one hand : Good. These TV shows have enormous potential in that they can scout out a LARGE number of talented (and untalented) people.
But they *always* become stupid shitfests with faux-drama and unfair editing.
