Is it me or is Freddie a bit embarrassing here?

Freddie "works" well within the Queen framework, but outside of it, his gestures, and facial expressions (with the mustache) is a bit cheesy.

It's tacky. Even what he's wearing is a bit puzzling. you'd think he'd dress in something more appropriate, like a spaceman's outfit.

Freddie in the 80s was tacky and cheesy.

In the 70s, it seemed like everything he did was unique, and dazzling.

Maybe it's his mustache. Maybe it's that he grew older and cut his long hair, but he wasn't as good as his 70's self.

His voice was also tacky in the song Time.
