Completly agree. I have a Creative Zen Xtra 40 GB and its awesome. Paid 250 (US dollars) for it - compare that to a 40 GB Ipod (I think they make one) and its alteast double that price

Just face it the iPod's are hip because they're good products. Sure it's hyped and way overpriced, but it doesn't make u a conformist if u buy one. They're easy to use and have a good playback quality. I think the video and photo iPod's ARE a waste of money though. I have the Shuffle, 512 MB (approx 120 mp3's), it's the cheapest one and i think it should be enough for anybody. :P[/QUOTE]

I don't care if it's lossy, i'm just glad if i can listen to anything when i'm on my bike or travelling with train. As i don't wanna carry my stereosystem with me when i'm on the road, the iPod(or any other mp3-player for that matter) is a great solution. When i'm at home it's another thing.

As for price, $400 is really not that bad when you consider a 60 gig mp3 player. You're not really saving that much money by going with the Creatives or iRivers unless you're REALLY stingy. In fact, I don't even think you can get a 60 gig iRiver.
As far as quality goes, everyone seems to have a different opinion of it which ranges the entire spectrum - on all three products. So you can't really use that as an objective measure.
The thing that iPod has over the other two, though, is that since most people have them, it provides a platform of interaction between iPod users. Just hook it up to iTunes and you not only can have your library on your iPod, but that of all your friends as well. Easy. iTunes and iPods are too convenient for words.
To be honest, the only reason I can see for people to not buy an iPod is the "I don't want one if YOU have one" effect - which seems VERY (and ridiculously) common when it comes to this.
