VLC media player is playing almost everything:

I just tried it and it works. Did you perchance just click on the Video_TS file?

Try this: Open Videolan, click on File/open file, then go to your Philly DVD and click on one of the files VTS_01_1 - VTS_01_4 - you can easily identify them as they are the largest files (by far). It should play.
