Yes there was an effort but the Fan Club got screwed over because the presale was available to ANYBODY that registered with Queenonline.

What the $30 for 4 mags wasn't enough??? That's called sloppy money management or SOMEBODY's padding their pockets.
[QUOTENAME]andYYY wrote: [/QUOTENAME]I agree with Your Valentine, The band that exist as "Queen" should at least help out the Fan Club, Brian has said he supports and appreciates what Jacky does in past Convention "Introductions", at least there was some effort by the fan club to provide Fans with priority tickets to the Q+PR concerts although I appreciate not everyone was happy in the way it was allocated. it would be a shame if the fan club closed because it has the potential to be very good if Queen supported it and probably cheaper too. Just my opinion...
I am not so familiar with fanclubs, but are there many that are sponsored by their 'idols'?
Good products sell theirselves and I am sure that (for example) the dutch fanclub will remain active for a long time, simply because it lives

I was not talking about the shirts but about the spirits of the people who run the (local) fanclubs
I forgot the german, who has to be mentioned in this as well
When the fanclubs are communities of all the fans then the people are not easily letting go
So I dont fear for the Dutch, German (and whatever) fanclub

The office was by far the highest expense of the fan club. I bet they spare at least 50% more money now. So:
1. Will the magazine be more thicker and more interesting now?
2. Will Jacky be paid for staying at home?
(And doesn't matter how much I hate Jacky or her fan club - Queen indeed SHOULD support it and that means something more than just sending 3 signed items for Convention).

I think you have to ask whether in the age of the internet a fan club is really worth having, if a band is popular then websites spring up and frankly they do a beter job of promoting the band than the officail fan clubs.
If Jacky hopes to continue she will have to compeat with Queenzone and QOL to get the information out there, IMO the most important thing to do would be to set up a live website and re-introduce a forum section, if she can do that then she might have a chance of making the club viable again.
Fans need a reason to go there, at the moment the website is worthless and the magazines not much better, why would you pay for it when everything is available on the web?
Now she has no office I don't see a reason for the club, she can't invite fans round to see items and she can only just compeat with the likes of Queenzone if she can build up a following again.
I wishher well but she needs to move with the times, the fan club is still run in the 1980's model and it no longer works.

I dont think queenfans need more websites in fact then Queenzone (and maybe queenonline)
And there are good examples, good websites, in other countries then the UK.
If you cant beat them (the internet sites that already are there), then join them
brian in fact made an official international queenfanclub on line not needed, in fact the brianmay website is a kind of fanclub site as well, I think
Needless for him to support a website that has less to tell then his own :)
The local fanclubs sure have a reason to exsist, not anyone has internet and it is always a good thing to meet Queen-soulmates and -matesses at the local meetings that are organized by the local fanclubs
Even private initiatives (the FM memorial in Montreux) get a lot of people to join, just because the group of initiators has the spirit, what is more important then the money
there are even 'queen celebrities' (well, kind of) that run to all those queen gatherings, fanclub or not

Life is not all about money and the internet is not the answer to all questions. It's a pity if the fan club dies and the fans have to rely on someone like Greg Brooks to answer their questions. Not to mention the convention - imagine a convention run by QP and sponsored by the Crazy Frog.

I think very few fans rely on Greg, he might like to think so but with so much accurate information freely out there it is difficult to see how he spends his days.
I agree that is not all about money, but the fact is for Jacky it largely is because it's her living, now if she can't turn it into something useful to fans she loses her living.
I think the conventions etc are a great way for the fan club to offer something different, but how many of them can you do, she has to have something that works for the rest of the 364 days a year not just one.

Yes, I agree and you misunderstood me. I think QP should fund the Fan Club. It's the longest running Fan Club that exists and Jacky always worked for it, so she should keep it. Even if it's old fashioned and even if it COSTS money and does not MAKE money, the band should have this non-internet fan organisation because it's something good and something from the heart.
And my comment about relying on GB means: the fans should have a place where they call in and ask questions without being treated like crap. The Q&A on QOL was a total non-service.
