Since there are people all round the world from this site, I have an odd request, to help me with something I'm up to at the minute.
What words/phrases do you use to describe studying for an exam? For example, in the UK, do you still use the word 'swot'. And in the US, what words/phrases are in common use? (I assume Americans don't use the word 'swot' in this way). I would apprecaite as many examples as possible.
A really, really odd topic, but it would be very useful for me to know whats in common use these days, for something I'm currently working on.

Yes we still use the word swot (I don't by the way) and for exam studying we call it revision. I am in the UK.
Hope this helps.

What about.."cramming" for an exam?
That's all I can think of.

I guess I would call it 'revising'...
Thanks for the replies; surprised at how quick there's been some! Thanks for that.
Erin, as a resident of the good 'ol US of A, I take it the word 'swot' is not used over there in this way?
Yeah, swot and cram were the only two words I could think of. Can't think of any other slang for study.

iv had it with school.....IM DONE! yeah, like everyone already said, the US uses studying, cramming, reviewing, preparing, all that kind of lingo
well i "swot" flies and thats bout it
In the US (my experience):
Studying = Routine reading, reviewing course notes.
Cramming = Last-minute intense, frantic reading/reviewing, usually because one hasn't kept up with the course material

I believe the common phrase here for the closest to studying would be "procrastinating." ;-)
