well i didn't think it was at the maracana but thinking about it and how big the attendance was then can't think where else it would have been but i don't know definate. sorry.
No soccer stadium was used for this festival. A specific site, called "Cidade do Rock" or "Rock City" was built specially for Rock in Rio. It was buit in Rio, I think in the neighboorhood of "Barra da Tijuca".

Sung by Elvis, not written by Elvis. In fact, he wrote very few songs, if any at all.

Elvis only ever wrote one hit - Love Me Tender. Even then that one was co-written.

I might be talking bullshit, but wasn't Cidade do Rock built in Praça do Jacarezinho, or something like that? In Rio, of course.[/QUOTE]

Hi, KillerKing840. I'm not very familiar with geographic details of Rio, but I'm sure it was said at the time that it was held at Barra da Tijuca. Could it be that they were referring to a wider area, that, in the mid-eighties, would include the one you mention?

Rock in rio was held in the streets of Rio-no stadium was used.

In reference to Jailhouse Rock Leiber/Stoller wrote that & Elvis never wrote anything Love Me Tender is credited to Presley/Matson but the song was written by Ken Darby (a singer/songwriter) but apparently due to copyright problems Elvis & Darby's wife Vera Matson were credited.

3 other songs in Elvis's first movie which was Love Me Tender had the same connection "Poor Boy" "Let Me" & "We're Gonna Move"......... yes I'm a sad music anorak & I'm going to watch some trains now
oh & to finish this Elvis thing his name appeared on several Otis Blackwell co-writes the most famous being "Don't Be Cruel" & rumour has it Elvis never met him but as he sang his song he was given a co-write for this too, totally un-appropriate
