Who would call this a screw job?

I was told about a month ago that I had won a science scholarship from my school and that I had to write a 1500 word essay and a thank you letter in order to claim it. I did that and was later even congratulated by one of my science teacher's for winning the scholarship. She even told me that on June 13the would be the whole award ceremony and shit. So June 13th passed and I didn't hear squat from them. My mom told me that probably I would get it at graduation next week. I went up to my teacher today after the bell rang and asked when I was going to receive it and she told me "no you're not gonna get it because you aren't majoring in science". I was so shocked that I just left it at that and went to my other class. But WTF???!?!?!!? That is so fucked up! If those mother fuckers knew ahead of time that I was majoring in music, why make me write all that shit??? Even my economics teacher told me to tell them how upset I am. Fucking the science department at my school. What do you guys think I should do? Go and request what I was promised and earned or just forget about it?
