Bono has done a hell of a lot more for the third world than Freddie did... that's for sure.

I fully agree with Zeni. Charity does little to solve problems, especially if it's done anonymously. Justice is the word for lasting change to the systems of the world. When someone is a celebrity, they certainly can bring awareness and interest to the masses.
Ditto on that, Sir GH... and *bows to you*

And a message to Fatih and all the other Bono bashers who think Bono's a lousy frontman, singer, whatever: Have you ever been to a U2 show or ever seen one on TV?
Maybe if you did, your opinions would change.

And may I ask how many actual U2 albums you have actually bothered to listen to? You might be very shocked. (and I can see the smartassed comments that will most likely follow this question, but I will make my point anyway.)

Again, if you took a little bit of a venture down that lane, your negative opinions might just change.

Bono/U2 is just as brilliant as Freddie/Queen... just they're different styles, backgrounds, messages, etc.
Don't get me wrong. I am a U2 fan as well as a Queen fan. Arguing (verbally abusively) over who's best, who can reach better ranges (therefore in some people's eyes means they're a better person or artist, huh?), etc.. really is just a waste of time. Music isn't meant to be treated that way.

It isn't about vocal ranges and shit like that. What the hell's wrong with some of you?

Also, do a little research before you guys blast your mouths and opinions off.

Got a problem with Bono's personality? Or how he doesn't give a damn about others' opinions and just goes out and does what he feels is right or wants? Well, I quite like it, to be honest with you.

If you don't like it, and don't like what he's doing in this world (positive), and still want to divulge on that "hat" issue.. then well, shove it and seek some psychotherapy! hah hah hah hah hah hah hah hah hah hah hah!!!!

"They're coming to take me away.. Ha ha!!"
Or maybe some people just don't like him.

Nah, that's impossible. And unreasonable! Forget I mentioned it.

I'm just curious what makes people hate him so much. That's all.

In being a U2 fan for nearly 15 years, I have seen enough of this and noone has a real logical reason behind their feelings.
Well you've every right to be curious sirrah.

It's just... HIM! The megalomaniacal, ego-driven thing only works if you have great music to back it up (which I just haven't heard from him in yonks). If he wants to be Bob Geldof and help the 3rd world, more power to him... but does he have to look so god damned *smug* when he's doing it?

I mean... okay, perhaps it's unreasonable for people to piss on him while knowing so little, but in my view it's just as unreasonable for people to wank in his shadow and sing his praises while not knowing him personally.
Good post Zeb.

However, Bono maybe as smug as Sting, but Bono at least makes an effort to try and improve the world.

How's he act or look smug when doing this?
"How's he act or look smug when doing this?"

I see you don't believe me!
God damn I wish I'd had my VCR rolling when I saw him on the news that one time... it was... ugh, damn... he was at a press conference, and he was waffling on about how big Live 8 was and how it was going to wake up the world leaders and shit, but he just had this awful look on his face and with every word he was giving his fist a little jiggle like he was 'really feeling it'.

It just strikes me as disingenuous, and don't think I'm picking solely on Bono, I'm just talking about him because this is his thread. What about Madonna? HAHA. "Are you ready to start a revolution", she said to that crowd.... Cretinous.

Again. You'll just have to shrug and say 'I don't believe you' because I wasn't taping at the time. But really, I've seen this guy act like a total gimp. Just my bad luck maybe.
If Bono died and went to Heaven, I'm sure Freddie would give him a good thumping, just like Roger said he'd do to John Peel.
"Please buy my upcoming album... I need the money"

I watched it. All of the press things he did for it. They aired all the pre- and post Live 8 press stuff Bono and Geldof did, all over the world .. no need to provide any recorded stuff. In fact, I think its available online on various U2 boards anyway.
And my opinion on it? I disagree with you.

I have heard Bono speak of these matters, on some very, un-scripted, natural, from the heart ways...
But, some of those press things he does, do sound kind of repetitious and dramatic sometimes, but thats just Bono himself. It could come across the wrong way sometimes, but certainly doesn't mean he is anymore or less serious about his campaigns.

I honestly don't see what you saw. Maybe its because I am a U2 fan and have been following the band for a long while and kind of, understand and get used to the odd quirks and such of the band and Bono. Who knows. Or maybe I'm just braindead....

I don't see how he seemed non-genuine or, whatever else.

Comments like that.. really make me sad.

Hahaha... look, really. Enjoy the guy. I just get that vibe off him, and since we've both seen the same stuff I don't see either of us changing our view, eh?

I mean look, to play Devil's advocate, I don't hate him nearly as much as those Gallagher wankers in Oasis (who *actually* said that if the Beatles were around in the 90's, they'd be Oasis). Paaathetic.

"Comments like that.. really make me sad."

Oh cheer the fuck up, at least he said he'd go to Heaven and not Hell. Besides, Chuck Norris will be the doorman at Heaven, it's not like he'll let in any troublemakers.
BONO ES UN GILIPOLLAS Y UN CHULOMIERDA!!

I'm afraid to even ask what that means...
I didn't know Bono had chlymidia.

I like their music but the ideas I don't like, the preaching, the wild-eyed prophecies. Bono laps up the praise he receives in a way I find nauseating.
