Can anyone help me with instructions on opening a .dat file? I am not computer literate to begin with but I've tried everything on my pc that I know of and nothing is supported. I've googled and it seems like all the terminology that is used I don't understand. What I am trying to open are pictures a friend sent me from one of her friends. I can't ask her friend what program was used to create them, she'll never know. The attachment reads like this (name of file).jpg[01_28].dat (59 KB). Not sure if that will help but if anyone could suggest something that would be great!! Thanks!

I saved it and removed the .dat and replaced it with .doc, let me try this. Thanks Serry!

Thijs, I tried using Media Player also. It's not video, it is pictures so I think that is why media player didn't work. Thanks though. :)

I notice many times that *.dat files are e-mail files that need to be opened with Outlook so you can see the attachment inside.

I don't know if this will work, but it's worth the try.

If I use Microsoft picture manager, then I at least am getting a little red "x" hahahahahaha! No success yet.

I tried just using outlook to open it and I'm getting an error that says it's "not a valid Win32 application." It doesn't seem though that I've downloaded Outlook correctly by the look of the icon in front of what its telling is Outlook.

Can't you just burn it on a DVD/VCD :P[/QUOTE]

I'm at work and no CD, DVD/VCD burner here. I'm just stubborn and want to figure out why the heck I can't view these. ;)
