This question still bugs me,who do people prefer more?!After all,Ritche Blackmore (who I consider to be the greatest guitarist ever,closely followed by Brian and Dimebag of course) wrote 90% of Purples material but he never got to play the music he really loved until Rainbow and produced some classics like stargazer.ANYWAY who do you like more and why?Do tell my dears!

Well, I love both bands, but I think if I had to choose it would be Deep Purple, mainly because of the vast number of their songs that I really love.
But Rainbow are a fantastic band too. Especially gotta dig the Dio era.

Rainbow.. Although I haven't really heard enough of Deep Purple to judge fairly.
It depends on the type of music you like,Rainbow are a bit heavier than Purple,take that into consideration!

A mate gave me a few songs from Rainbow so then I liked it so much I bought the Greatest Hits. Now I heard "Smoke On The Water" after I got the Greatest Hits of Rainbow and started buying songs from Deep Purple....It's hard to choose between the two... hmmmm not sure. I love them both! :D

the albums themselves - at least the vinyl and cd copies i have are definitely mixed toward the vocals/guitars and keyboards...you can hardly hear the bass on many of em

I think Dio is MUCH better than Coverdale vocal wise but coverdale is amazing live with the way he performs and interacts with the crowd!

Dio is better than Coverdale, but Ian Gillan is much better than Dio and Coverdale together.

Dio is better than Coverdale, but Ian Gillan is much better than Dio and Coverdale together.

I went to see Deep Purple last night! They rocked!! They were just absolutely amazing! You gotta love them :)
