Personally I don't like either team.

Through most of the tournament they've playing some sort of anti-football where they score once and defend for the rest of the game.

I just hope that the best team wins...
...and by that I mean the team that dominates the ball, that creates most goal situations, and plays fair and without any sorts of dirty fouls or tricks.

I was sure you were going to say that. No matter what happens, you're always talking shit about Italian football. It's clear that either you didn't see their games or you saw only what you wanted to see.
That time will come, one day you'll see that i'll be dead and you will laugh!
I never support Italy, but I'm with them this time, even worse I support blah...France..
France had it not long ago, time for a new winner and have a country creep closer to Brazil.
MY GOD spell it write.
France are too old, too African, and apart from ZZ, too undeserving.

Italy have also, in my view, played better for a greater proportion of the time.

Guess who I got in the office sweepstake?

ps, I should clarify the African remark...the number of players in that team not born in France, and only playing for them due to colonialism, leaves a poor taste in the mouth. It has been especially noticeable in the UK, where Marcel Desailly has been a pundit on the BBC...often commenting on the Ghana team (as he was born there).

Okay, time for Bob to whine.

Italy was so full of dirty crap in the game versus Germany. The referee practically stopped giving them free kicks in the second half because they were rolling around every 2-3 minutes.

Italy has been playing their boring defensive style of soccer for ages. I firmly believe that they were much of the reason why a win was changed from 2 points to 3 points. Teams like Italy could play their boring style and sneak into the top 16 with three ties, but now that's impossible with a win as 3 points. Thank goodness.

I was in a bar watching the game. There's only one thing I dislike more than Italian soccer: it's Italian soccer fans. They are the most pigheaded and self-centred soccer fans that I have ever had the misfortune of watching a match with. Anything said that wasn't pro-Italy was interpreted as anti-Italy. They made fun of German fans and players. Only twice in the game were German players knocked down, and they said "get up you big baby", and every time an Italian player was knocked down, they looked almost like a mother caring for a newborn child. It was sickening. I really, really hope these people don't represent the majority of Italian soccer fans. But this isn't the first time I experienced this. I watched Euro 04 and World Cup 02 games at bars and the Italian fans were the exact same as they were on Tuesday against Germany. It's really quite a sight.

I hope Italy loses. France hasn't been much better, but Italy does not deserve to win. Granted, neither did Germany. I'm cheering for them, but they shouldn't have gotten past Argentina. Argentina were definitely the stronger team. France beat Brazil. That is no easy feat. Let's look at Italy: they cheated their way through Australia (every non-Italian fan I have spoken to agrees), they were given a gimmie with the Ukraine (you can't deny that), but I'll give them the credit for scoring decent goals to beat Germany. But I'm really disappointed that it's two boring teams in the final. I probably won't watch. But... my prediction: Italy will win on penalties. They have to make up for Baggio in 94.

How much of Italian football do you actually watch? Obviously not much if you still believe all Italian teams play 'catenaccio' football. Didn't you watch AC Milan and Inter Milan in their respective Italian league and in the UEFA Champions League? They were playing more offensive and attacking football even more so than English clubs such as Arsenal and Chelsea. And statistics show that Serie A has a higher goal ratio per game than the English Premiership, what does that show?

Fair enough if you had these opinions 4 or 5 years ago, but Italian football has changed dramatically, they play to win. The only big named Italian side i know of who plays that 'negative' sort of football recently is Juventus, the team i support.

So far in this World Cup i've only seen Italy play defensive football for 45 minutes, and that was the second half against Australia, which they shouldn't be criticised for as they were down to 10 men as Marco Materazzi had been sent off. (If you saw the tackle in which he was sent off for, i think you'll find the red card was a bit harsh.)

As far as the cheating against Australia goes, i'm sure many other players from many other countries would have gone down in the box after that tackle. Remember, there was contact, it was the last minute in the game, he shouldn't be so hounded (the player's name is Fabio Grosso) for trying to earn his side a penalty.

As far as labeling Italian soccer fans as being 'pig-headed', i have no idea what made you say that. There's obviously some blissful ignorance i
