i recently discovered, that McFly's cover of DSMN (released 07/17/06, which was some 10 days ago) topped the UK chart in it's week of release (07/22/06). late but well earned honours for one of the more underrated Queen songs.
to be honest: i don't know yet, what their version sounds like, but i'm trying to have a listen soon ;)

To be quite honest... it sounds so cheesy!
I saw them on TV performing it... mimed! And Danny (one of the lead singers) jumped on top of the piano (which another was pretending to play) and did a very Brian May guitar solo (which he also was pretending to play)

McFly suck ass. At least people are getting exposed to Queen though.
It sounds like they have tried to copy it exactly, right down to the brian guitar solo sound. And your right that TV mimed version was a tad anoying, made me laugh though :)
OUCH, i just listened to the McFly version ... obviously they lack some appropriate singer, they completely ruin at least the intro and the chorus.
but at least DSMN now gets the chart spot it already had deserved back in '79. it should have done far better than #9, but it only was released as the 2nd single from Jazz. and i'm quite sure, if it had been the 1st single it would at least have entered the Top5.

I´ve never heard about McFly before. I liked their version.
They are just pop-rock. Simple. Don't expect more than that. People are used to hate what does not fit in their musical style. McFly is close to Blink182.
By the way, it is a fun and clean version.

I'm sad to announce that I'm starting to kind of like Mcfly, I'm not too keen on their version of DSMN but some of their other stuff's okay.

It only got to number 9 in the UK in 79 and it literally fought its way up the charts to get there !
There are a number of other classic Queen songs that should have done more chartwise. Who Wants to Live Forever only got to 25.

One of the reasons DSMN didn't do better, might be the fact, that the song itself was already well-known, as the album had just been out, so the single had nothing new to offer. Would it have been released to promote the album - instead of BicycleRace - i'm quite sure it would have charted higher. And if BicycleRace then would have been second single, after Jazz was out, it would have had the same struggling to get into the Top20...
WWTLF is a really great tune, no doubt about that, but it's not that type of ballad, that usually does well on the charts. And: It was the 4th(!) single from AKOM, an album that was more than well-sold, when the WWTLF-single was released, and it had not much new to offer too, except for the die-hard Queen fans. Except someone else would feel a sincere urge to have some edited version of WWTLF on a 7" ;)

McFly should be careful, this is their second Queen cover, they've allready done CLTCL. And I think they sang it live on TOTP, just didn't play it live.

I've heard it and I don't like it. McFly haven't bothered to release any songs over here (thank's for that guys, I'm struggling to dodge songs from Panic at the disco and Fallout boy as it is) but as the internet is a wonderful thing, I found it and as I'm still reeling from Electic 6's remake of Radio GaGa, it just didn't sound like it should, that would be sound good. So yeah, if you like it, by all means, like it, but I'll stick to the original.
