Question Regarding 'Stone Cold Crazy'

Who was the main writer and/or composer for the song Stone Cold Crazy?
Did they all just write the parts they would need to play (eg, Bri write the guitar parts and John the bass)or was it something else.
I'm wondering because the lyrics don't sound like Freddie's writing. The mucic sounds like it may come from Freddie or possibly Brian??

Now, that is a hard question. To tell you the honest-to-god truth, i do not know myself. The song, itself, was credited to QUEEN. But, individual writers...I don't know! I am suspecting Roger or Brian though...hmmmm...

The song was written during singer Freddie Mercury's time with a short-lived college band called Wreckage. Queen played it live as early as 1972, apparently as the first song they performed on stage [1] and, in late 1974, they finally decided to record it onto an album. Since no one could remember who wrote it, it was credited to all four members of the band.

Ew. It says Metallica covered it and won a grammy. I've got nothing against Metallica, but how the fuck do you win a grammy for something you didn't write ? Is this its own catagory ?

Interesting topic. I'd been wondering about it myself.. not so much as to who actually wrote it, but why it was credited to all four of them when John wasn't even in the band when it was written, or at least a version of it had been written and performed already.

I don't know about Wreckage, but I believe what I've heard is that 'Queen' performed it live long before John even joined the band.

Not sure I buy the 'couldn't remember' defense.. haha, perhaps none of them wrote it ;) j/k

^ Ah ! THAT's what I remembered reading.

Metallica covered Stone Cold Crazy and it was a B side for their Grammy winning hit single "Enter Sandman". They didn´t win a Grammy for SCC. They didn't even want to do the cover, I think it was comissioned by Elektra for a compilation of some sort.

Why do all the threads have too much writting in them now?

It is quite hard for me, I mean I know I am an english speaking person and it is my own language and all that crap, but it isn't good as my attention span is not a very DEVELOPED thing (I can't pay attention for more than 5-10 minutes) which means I miss out on alot of the information...and everyone yells at me for it :'(

Oh and thanks for the replies. They were helpful. If it was during Freddie's time with Wreckage it is really odd that it is credited to all of them.

Don't know if someone mentioned this earlier, but isn't SCC a pre Queen song? Didn't Freddie like play it with Wreckage? If he did, the question is how close it sounded to the SHA version of the song?

Freddie wrote this during his Wreckage days...dunno how close it is to that version...

No idea about the Wreckage version, but at least the 1970 one was the same, according to Barry Mitchell.
