Roger Remix of Wembley '86 LP???

Hi,

I hope this hasn't already been covered elsewhere - I tried a search but couldn't find it.

I know that when the Live at Wembley '86 album originally came out, there was a lot of comment about it not sounding great, especially drum-wise.

I DEFINITELY remember seeing copies of the LP (vinyl) in Tower Records in London soon after the release, and these copies were stickered on the front with a yellow sticker saying 'Remixed By Roger Taylor'. (it may possibly have said 'remastered', not 'remixed', but I don't think so).

I didn't buy it cos I thought that there would obviously be CD versions of this remix, but after a while I couldn't find any stickered CD's and all the stickered vinyl copies were gone.

Does anyone have any further info on this? Is the copy that we have now the final Roger mix, or was this a limited thing just for a specific vinyl run and all other versions are the original mix?

First I've heard of it, and I too was buying LAW on the day of release on vinyl.

I had a sticker on my DVD that said "Includes Interwiews with Brian Roger" the yellow sticker, with red letters, the other one (cd) had "Includes extra Bonus tracks".

I have the Live at Wembley LP and it does have the "remixed by Roger Taylor" sticker on the front cover. It was attached directly to the cardboard cover, not the shrinkwrap plastic as it usually is on new vinyl. I bought this second hand from a collector years ago and always found the sticker to be unusual. To date, i have never seen another one come to think of it.

The LP i have i beleive is a German pressing. At the time i figured the sticker was adding on just to boost sales as Roger and The Cross were SO huge in Germany. I always thought it was slapped on just to sell a few extra copies to Roger fans ( like they would'nt buy it anyway?!)

Interesting to see this come up.

Does this mean the LAW LP with this sticker is more valuable?

The one i have is in NM condition.

Is it possible for you to post a scan of the cover ? I would really want to see what this sticker looks like. Thanx !

yeah, i can clearly remember seeing this too in my local HMV...It was a yellow sticker with black text, saying remixed by roger taylor...Strange that no mention of this was/is made on the cd version.

My LAW vynil has the Remixed By Roger Taylor sticker on the front. Ill take a pic of it.

It's not a lot more valuable due to one sticker. You must think in terms of a couple of quids more.

It is a orangey yellowish coloured circular sticker with bold large black text.

It's about 3 inches in diameter, and is affixed in the middle area of the far righthand side of the main photo on the cover.

Thanks Guys -I'm glad I wasn't imagining it and that my memory hadn't failed!

The interesting thing now would be to find out if the mix is actually substantially different to the main one which was first released, and whether the Roger remix is the one now on the usually available versions of the shop CD.

If the Roger remix only appeared for a limited time and only on the vinyl versions, we could have an overlooked rarity on our hands - I would think that a substantially different mix is more interesting than a good remaster from a collector's point of view.

Perhaps Greg Brooks (pleas everyone, no screaming!) or JSS can help out on this? I think I will emial Brian at his site as well and hope that he might find this interesting enough to comment on.

I remember HMV in Bournemouth had LAW with this sticker - only saw it once , never again .

Well now it looks like i will have to break out that album i have and play it against my cassette copy and see if i notice any differences in the mix.

As noted earlier, it was said that when the LAW album first went out the drums were mixed too low. Roger maybe had issues with this, and decided to take matters into his own hands and remix it to his tastes?

I agee that it would be interesting to find out what the story is behind this.

Makes my happier knowing i have this album now! Always though the sticker was neat bonus, but had NO idea it could be something very ususual or rare.

And the writing on the label is in German so there could be som 'Cross' connection.

easy way to compare them,

1-play Radio ga Ga from the LP
2-play Radio Ga Ga from the CD, and see if the drums sound any different, like heavier/lighter, louder/softer etc, same with Rock You
